Advent 3

God our Father,

you gave to Zechariah and Elizabeth in their old age

a son called John.

He grew up strong in spirit,

prepared the people for the coming of the Lord,

and baptized them in the Jordan to wash away their sins.

Help us, who have been baptized into Christ,

to be ready to welcome him into our hearts,

and to grow strong in faith by the power of the Spirit.

We ask this through Jesus Christ,

the light who is coming into the world.

Amen.

This week We give thanks for ...we pray for ...

We pray for a good response to invitations to our Christmas services.
We pray for all the families coming to the Christingle service that they may know God's love.
We give thanks for the choir and Sunday Singers who help our worship.
We pray for preparations for our Carol Service next week.

For The Children's Society as they seek to bring a better life to children and young people.
Give thanks for Laura and Steven on their wedding this week.
For our NHS and those working on the vaccination and booster program.
Give thanks for the work of our Churchwardens and pray for God's wisdom as we think who will replace Cathy when she retires in the spring.

Bowl of Prayers

Lord Jesus, light of the world,

John told the people to prepare,

for you were very near.

As Christmas grows closer day by day,

help us to be ready to welcome you now.

Amen.

10am Service for Wednesday

Spiritual Communion Prayer

Please pray this prayer during the distribution of Communion in the church if you are joining us online or are not receiving communion.

Thanks be to you, Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits you have given us,
for all the pains and insults
you have borne for us.
Since we cannot now receive you sacramentally,
We ask you to come spiritually into our hearts.
O most merciful redeemer,
friend and brother,
may we know you more clearly,
love you more dearly,
and follow you more nearly,
day by day. Amen.
