Women Like Us

This morning I read Luke 1 very early and found the word “believe” written from some previous day. Young Mary, a virgin visited by an angel decided to believe all would be well, that the promises of God would be fulfilled for her and because of her. She would be the mother of the baby who himself is the evidence of God’s love for us, of His promises.

I’ve just found notes in my journal, the words “women like us”. I like reading the stories of women in my Bible, realizing what we have in common. Mary was confused initially. She most likely felt an indescribable pressure. She decided to believe what God told her although it was “unbelievable”. The calendar I’ve designed for the coming year was born of a time of quiet creativity. A sketch of a thoughtful woman was surrounded by a mosaic and words that represent God. I decided to count them this morning. There are over fifty. I’m resting with one today, “wise”, because God is wise, wise in His comprehension of us. Like Mary, we can trust His promises.

I am returning to this newsletter with this concept. How are we like the women in God’s word. How were they like us? I’ll explore a common thread, redemption.

I hope you’ll join me. I hope you’ll invite others to come along.
