Year 3 Hanukkah Talk Uri spoke to his classmates in Year 3 about Hanukkah and how he and his family celebrated the Jewish holiday. He spoke about the history of Hanukkah and explained how the menorah is a special candelabra with 9 candles. There are Jewish songs and hymns that are special for Hanukkah. One of them is the Maoz Tzur which is sung each night after the menorah candles are lit. Uri talked about the special foods that Hebrew people eat during this time. They enjoy doughnuts stuffed with jam and fritters. Uri and his family kindly provided doughnuts for his peers to enjoy last Friday. Thank you Uri!

Jesse Tree This year, the children at Loreto have created a Jesse Tree in the school hallway. Each class from Nursery to Year 6 have made a decoration with a biblical symbol for the tree. The Jesse Tree tradition is believed to stem back to medieval times and is rooted in Isaiah 11:1: “A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.” Jesse was the father of David, Israel’s greatest king. Jesus is descended from the line of David; he is the branch God promised would grow from Jesse’s family tree. Each symbol represents a story from Hebrew Scripture and sees our God setting the stage for the birth of Jesus.
Gold Book Well done to pupils in Lower Primary and Foundation Stage 2 who were presented with their Gold Award certificates and gold pencils.
Yr. 5 and Yr. 6 Advent Mass Fr Paul celebrated mass in the school chapel for Year 5 and 6 during this holy season of Advent. Pupils took part in the readings and offertory and listened to a beautiful homily about God’s great love for each and everyone of us.
What Stars! The Gardening Club's Christmas tree had something missing?! Lottie and Amabel took it upon themselves to make a star to place on top of the tree. Mr Devincenzi-Clemens set them the challenge to make it from as much recycled material as possible. They used a milk container for the inside, rolling cones from scrap pieces of yellow paper to form the points of the star. They even managed to find an old set of battery powered tree lights in a bin! A great effort girls, our LSSC will be proud!

‘Holyday’! The pupils had a day off school on Wednesday the 8th of December to honour the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The feast celebrates Mary's Conception in the womb of St Anne without the stain of original sin.
Faith Diary The third Sunday of Advent is also called Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete is a Latin word that means “rejoice.” This name is taken from the entrance antiphon for Sunday's Mass, which is also echoed in today's second reading from the Paul's letter to the Philippians. This Sunday is marked by lighting the pink candle instead of a purple one on the Advent wreath. It is a reminder that the Advent season is a season of joy because, as John announces in today’s Gospel, the Saviour is coming.
