December Updates

Kids in the Garden Year End Drive

Thank you to all those who have donated to our Kids in the Garden drive! We are moving closer to our goal of $6000, with $880 raised thus far. With only 15 more days left in the year, please share this campaign near and far.

A holiday gift of $40 will pay for one student to join the program and create lifelong habits and skills that help them make healthier and more sustainable choices. Anything you can share to support this program will be greatly appreciated!

We have had lots of positive feedback from our Kids in the Garden program this year:

Teachers say they enjoy that our program provides students with the opportunity to learn outdoors while engaging with multiple aspects of the food system, starting from seeds all the way to consumption and disposal. The KIG program is a comprehensive learning experience that embeds sustainability values at a young age.

Another great year!

We can't believe it's already December! It's been a wonderful year at Urban Bounty. We are so grateful to all of the volunteers, members, donors, partners, and funders that continue to support our work towards a more food secure Richmond!

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during these challenging times. Our thoughts are with those across BC who have been impacted by the catastrophic flooding.

Additionally, a volunteer may help in updating the education program curriculum guide (through Canva), alongside the Education Programs Coordinator.

Please see this document for more details about this position. To apply, please send your resume and cover letter to programs@richmondfoodsecurity.org.

Feel free to send the Programs Coordinator an email if you have any questions about the volunteer tasks, the position, and/or Urban Bounty.

Community Gardens

End of year note: We have wrapped up our community garden program for another year and we want to thank all our gardeners for their resilience throughout the climate-induced weather variations we have had this year!

If you have a few minutes, we would appreciate your feedback on our year end survey here.

Renewals: Our renewal period will be starting January 4th until February 5th. An email will be sent to you with instructions on payment. Please let us know immediately if you do not plan on renewing so we can assign the plot to a new gardener on the waiting list!

Seed Library

This year we want to revamp our Community Seed Library program and make it more applicable for users.

We are still accepting donations. If you have extra seeds from this year, please drop your seeds off at our office at 7611 Ash Street. Place them in the locked black mailbox to the right of our door.
