Integrative Health Equity: From Patients to Policy
Join us to explore the role that social and structural determinants play in the ability of individuals and communities to stay healthy, especially in marginalized and under-resourced communities. In this presentation, you will learn how a federally qualified health center in Texas takes a multilevel approach to help advance health equity: (1) using a relational, whole person, interprofessional model with patients in clinic; (2) helping connect patients to resources that address unmet individual needs such as food, transportation, and housing; and (3) advocating for policy changes that impact community health.
Dr. Sharad Kohli is a family physician who has dedicated his career to advancing health equity. He has spent two decades working with Federally Qualified Health Centers in urban and rural settings in California and Texas. He is a co-founder of Integrative Medicine for the Underserved (IM4US) and served in leadership for the Integrative Health Policy Consortium (IHPC). He currently is the Medical Director of the Integrative Pain Management Program at People’s Community Clinic, an FQHC in Austin, Texas.
Keegan Warren-Clem, J.D., LL.M. is a Practice Area Manager at Texas Legal Services Center, managing the Medical-Legal Partnerships (MLP) department and overseeing Legal Aid for Survivors of Sexual Assault, Crime Victims program and Veteran Legal Assistance programs. She works collaboratively with health care providers to improve outcomes by bringing patient-centered legal and structural expertise into the delivery of health care.

Community as Medicine: Group Health & Wellness Coaching
UVM Integrative Health offers group health & wellness coaching for employees of UVM and UVM Medical Center. Based on the Open Source Wellness model, the coaching program aims to be the behavioral equivalent of a pharmacy for behaviors that drive human health and wellbeing: physical activity, nutritious food, stress reduction and social support. Participants work together, under the guidance of an integrative health and wellness coach, to create sustained changes in their physical, psychological and social wellbeing.
We are collecting data on health outcomes to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of this program. The data will be valuable in designing and implementing effective worksite health and wellness programming for employees in university and hospital settings.
