Thank you for being part of our narrative medicine community.

Dear NWNMC community,

As challenging as this last year and a half has been, our community has grown—in numbers and reach, in cohesion across the northwest region, and in our understanding of our mission.

Thank you for being a member of our narrative medicine community! Together, we supported health care providers, patients, and caregivers during a global pandemic, embracing new ways of connecting and telling stories. We developed curricula to train students, educators, and health care practitioners in narrative medicine skills. We continued to create spaces for storytelling. And we recognized that for all we have accomplished, we have work to do to become a more inclusive organization. To read more about what we’ve done this year, the NWNMC 2020-21 Annual Report is available on our homepage.

We take seriously the collaborative component of our community and we welcome volunteers who wish to become more involved in our mission to build, sustain and promote a regional narrative medicine community.  Our committees are looking for new members.

  • The Programming Committee develops a year-round community of practice roster of facilitators and supports NWNMC programming through recruitment, facilitator support, online event marketing, technical event management, and program evaluation.
  • The JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Committee provides accountability across our activities and programming to support our commitment to be an inclusive organization. We are looking for individuals who have experience and training in this area.
  • The Communications Committee is responsible for this newsletter, the website, and social media accounts on Twitter and Instagram.  If you are interested in new audience outreach, website projects, blog editing, or social media curation, we would love to have you. We meet every other month, usually on Zoom.
  • The Finance/Fundraising Committee has new leadership.  If you have fundraising experience, grant writing expertise, event planning chops, and/or ideas about how to generate funds to support our work, we'd love to have you join us.

Interested? Drop us an email. Introduce yourself and your interests, or tell us what skill or passion you could bring to our group!

Make a donation. Northwest Narrative is a 501c nonprofit organization and we welcome a donation of any amount.  Giving to NWNMC makes it possible for us to provide Community of Practice workshops at no charge and make available sliding scale and scholarship options to expand participation  in workshops and trainings.  Your donation also allows us to fairly compensate workshop facilitators and trainers. Make a year end donation NOW.

We look forward to writing, reading, and being in community with you in the year to come!

ABOUT THE NWNM COLLABORATIVE

Our mission is to bring a diverse group of interprofessional health care providers, students, academics, artists, patients and caregivers together to build skills in narrative competence: the ability to recognize, listen to and be moved to action by the stories of others.
