(proposed House District 4 Map A - we will see Map C on Monday)

Dear friends,

I'm writing today with two quick notes, both voting-related.

Ranked Choice Voting

At a community forum I held this fall, constituents gave me homework (which I love!) I was asked to figure out how to decarbonize buildings, and what legislation would help achieve that goal, and also to consider putting in a bill to advocate for Ranked Choice Voting (RCV). I'm working on both items, and am writing today to see if you might want to hop on a zoom sometime this week to talk about what a RCV bill might look like in Rhode Island? I have some thoughts! I've been looking at legislation around the country, and past bills here in Rhode Island. I've been talking to local and national advocates. Now I am seeking more input from constituents who are interested in how we vote. Please let me know if you want to join a small working group to develop and advocate for this legislation, by replying to this e-mail. And if you're wondering, "what is ranked choice voting" or you just want to dive into the details, here is some information from FairVote to get you started.

Redistricting

New draft maps are out. Last week Senate Map C was released, fixing some issues in the proposed boundaries of SD3, SD6 and SD15. House Map C will be released on Monday night, and available on the RI Redistricting page, which has a lot of other information and maps. The next public meeting is in South Kingston Monday night at 5:30; you can provide public testimony at the hearing. You can also watch on Capitol TV. If you want to reach out to the redistricting map drawing consultants, there is a form on the bottom of the RI Redistricting page you might complete, as well as their e-mail and phone numbers.

I hope you and your family have a lovely holiday season. As always, please follow me on TwitterFacebook or Instagram, or write to me at info@rebeccakislak.com. You can also call or text me at 401-400-2338. I look forward to hearing from you!

General Information

Vaccine Information Kids 5 and older are able to get vaccinated! The pictures of your kids getting vaccinated are thrilling and amazing and beautiful. Boosters are available now for lots of us who are eligible! 90% of adults in RI are vaccinated! I hope we get above 90% of everyone soon. Boosters are available for adults. That's the good news.  Here is the main RI Department of Health information page for vaccination. Sign up here!

The COVID-19 hotline is 401-222-8022 for any COVID-related questions.

Sign up for testing (whether you have symptoms or not) at portal.ri.gov It's really easy and often same day appointments are available. It's good to get tested if you have symptoms. Even though I have been vaccinated, my allergies have been awful. I get tested from time to time just to be sure it isn't a COVID breakthrough case.

Here is the Department of Health COVID Data Hub.
And here is the WPRI summary of COVID data with helpful and interesting charts.
