Events! Essays! Ebooks!
(and Audio!)

First, if you're local to Los Angeles...

...come see me at the Secret Movie Club's screening of Ed Wood, Tim Burton's ever-so-slightly-fictional biopic of Edward D. Wood, Jr., who wrote and directed Plan 9 from Outer Space. The screening is Thursday, December 16, 2021, in East LA. I'll be selling paper copies of my book (for $5 less than the cover price!) and saying a little something before the movie begins. I'm thrilled for this opportunity!

More about the screening + a link to tickets here.

Second, if you're out of podcast episodes...

...here are a couple of 'casts that featured me recently.

Jason Henderson of Castle of Horror had me on Castle Talk. I always enjoy talking to him, as we both know a lot but we know different things.

Paul Brooks of B-Movie Mania interviewed me as well. Naturally, since I'm talking about the same book both times, there's some overlap, but they did have unique approaches.

Coming soon is an episode of the Dana Gould Hour with me on it. I believe it'll be out this month, though I'm not sure. I know Dana and I had fun, but I was a bit starstruck, so my concrete memories of the recording are a little thin. I look forward to hearing what I have to say as much as anyone else!

Third, if you've been waiting for ordering info...

...my book on Plan 9 is about as available as it'll ever be!

If you'd like a low-price ebook version, that's available at my publisher here. The ebook will never be available at Amazon; PS is the only place to get it.

If you'd like to order a paper copy in a guaranteed, definitely-available way, go to PS. The publisher is in the UK, yes, but they routinely ship to North America and worldwide. They are always going to be ready to accept orders for my book.

For faster but less certain availability, go to Amazon. The book keeps going in and out of stock there, and sometimes when out of stock it's still orderable, but sometimes not. Don't pay more than the list price of $30 if you live in the US; I saw it on sale for $40 for a while and that's not okay.

I believe the first run has sold out and the printers are slammed, so it's possible the book won't be back in stock until January 12. I have limited information about this. If you are utterly desperate for a paper copy, you can always Paypal me $30 and I'll mail you one. I'm totally here for that: kcoldiron at gmail.com.

(side note: I'm sorry the price point is a bit high, but it's a beautiful hardback with a dust cover and endpapers. PS makes gorgeous books.)

Scalzi's Big Idea and more!

John Scalzi, one of our finest internet citizens and a tremendous writer of SFF, hosted an essay I wrote about the Big Idea behind my monograph (and the bigger project I've been working on about bad film). It's the best, shortest encapsulation out there of my philosophy of bad film, and I'm so grateful to him for agreeing to post it.

Likely in January, I will be hosting a Scener watch party for Plan 9, so we can all watch and chat online together. (If this interests you, drop me a line; I'm trying to assemble this event and I'm not sure how much planning to do.)

In March, I am hoping to visit Forbidden Planet in New York City and Plan 9 Records in central Virginia to hang out and sign books. Those plans are still coming together, but I'm excited about both!
