1. Better.com CEO Vishal Garg, who laid off 900 employees in a Zoom call, is taking time off at the request of the company’s board of directors. Better is also hiring a consulting firm to do a "leadership and cultural assessment," whose recommendations will be used to “build a long-term sustainable and positive culture at Better." 2. NYC’s Claroty, an industrial cybersecurity platform for physical systems, has raised $400 million in a Series E funding. SoftBank, Bessemer Venture Partners and Schneider Electric co-led the round and were joined by ISTARI, Team8 and Standard Investments. In addition, Claroty is also acquiring NYC’s Medigate, a healthcare IoT security company. The terms of that deal were not disclosed. Medigate had previously raised $50 million. 3. NYC’s Republic, a retail investment platform, is acquiring UK-based Seedrs, a crowdfunding platform. The purchase price is $100 million. Republic expects that the acquisition will accelerate its expansion in Europe. (www.republic.co) (www.seedrs.com) (PR Newswire)

4. NYC’s Nuvocargo, a platform that modernizes US/Mexico trade, has raised $20.5 million in a venture funding round at a $180 million valuation. The round was led by NYC’s Tiger Global, The Flexport Fund, QED Investors and NFX. Nuvocargo’s platform offers an all-in-one service that rolls freight forwarding, customs brokerage, cargo insurance and trade financing into one app. (www.nuvocargo.com) (Globe Newswire)

5. Brooklyn’s Deed, a workplace giving platform, has raised $10 million in a Series A funding. Earlybird led the round with participation from PruVen Capital, Y Combinator, Paua Ventures, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and Jeffrey Katzenberg’s Wndrco. Deed's platform is used by companies such as Airbnb, Stripe, Box and Adidas to let employees help shape corporate giving. (www.joindeed.com) (TechCrunch)

6. NYC’s Via, a transit technology and mobility company, has raised $130 million in a Series G funding at a $3.3 billion valuation. Janus Henderson led the round and was joined by NYC’s BlackRock, ION Crossover Partners, Koch Disruptive Technologiesv and Exor. Via develops public mobility systems by building a network of buses, shuttles and wheelchair-accessible vehicles. (www.ridewithvia.com) (Reuters)

7. NYC’s Shiftsmart, a labor management platform, has raised $95 million in a Series B funding. D1 Capital led the round and was joined by Imaginary Ventures, Spieker Partners and S12F. The company’s platform matches hourly workers with open shifts across a variety of industry verticals and roles. (www.shiftsmart.com) (TechCrunch)

8. NYC’s CertiK, a blockchain auditing platform, has raised $80 million in a Series B2 funding. Sequoia led the round and was joined by NYC’s Tiger Global, Coatue Management and GL Ventures. CertiK has audited blockchain smart contracts for over 1,800 clients. (www.certik.com) (The Block)

9. Brooklyn’s Universe, a website design mobile app, has raised $30 million in a Series B funding. The round was led by Addition with participation from GV (Google Ventures), Javelin Venture Partners and NYC’s Box Group. The Universe app has been used by 500,000 people to build websites and online stores from their phones. (www.onuniverse.com) (PR Newswire)

10. NYC’s Pepper, an e-commerce platform for food distributors, has raised $16 million in a Series A funding. The round was led by Index Ventures with participation from NYC’s Greylock, Imaginary Ventures, NYC’s BoxGroup and Moving Capital. Pepper’s platform is used by over 25,000 restaurants and grocery stores in the U.S. and Canada. (www.usepepper.com) (BusinessWire)
