A message from the Manager

As we near the end of 2021, I would like to thank all our volunteers, donors, and friends of Warrnambool & District Community Hospice for your support throughout this challenging year. While COVID-19 has continued to impact our service, I am proud to report that we have continued to provide Hospice in the Home throughout the year.

The willingness of our dedicated volunteers to adapt and comply with a myriad of changing rules and regulations, has seen us support 30 families providing end of life care at home in 2021. Of the people who succumbed to their life limiting illness, 50% achieved their wish to die at home, and most were able to remain at home longer because of the support they received. Collectively, our amazing volunteers gave over 1152 hours of their time, to ensure families could remain at home together.

Unless a patient is imminently dying, visiting restrictions are still being enforced by some hospitals and nursing homes, making it more important than ever to support end of life care at home. Having all experienced what it is like to be separated from the people we love, I am sure you can appreciate how precious time together is and how much our service means to recipients of Hospice on the Home.

We hope that with such high vaccination rates in our region and all our volunteers double or triple vaccinated, that there will be minimal disruptions in 2022. The implementation of a promotional plan is scheduled for early in the new year to help raise awareness of Hospice in the Home and allow us to connect with more people needing our support.
