Sustainability Research and Practice Seminar "Thank You!"

As the semester winds down and we’re looking back on another successful Sustainability Research and Practice Seminar series, a big thank you goes out to all of the presenters for sharing their work and creativity with the WCU community.  Each presentation gave us new ways of thinking about sustainability and drew in diverse perspectives on understanding and creating more equitable, healthy, vibrant communities and worlds.

If you missed a presentation you had hoped to catch, never fear, there are recordings available on the Digital Commons website for Sustainability Research and Creative Activities at WCU.

Brandywine Project Faculty Workshop

Faculty members, get ready and get excited for the next Brandywine Project Faculty Workshop, January 11th - 12th, 2022!  This is designed as a collaborative workshop where attendees develop sustainability courses.  The workshop will cover two days – one in person and one via Zoom – and meals will be provided the first day.  Even if you aren't as versed in issues of environmental, social, and economic sustainability as you'd like, this is a great opportunity to come together with colleagues, form new connections, and deepen your understanding, as you find applications within your own discipline.  Remember, sustainability isn't just for scientists.  As a bonus, there are a limited number of $500 stipends available for WCU faculty members who create or revise syllabi.  Registration is up now, so don't put off taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity.  Follow the link below for more information and to save your spot!

Spotted in the GNA

For our final Fall 2021 Spotted in the GNA feature, we're sharing a beautiful photograph of the most common visitor to feeders across the continent in the wintertime, the Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hiemalis).  While the more detailed plumage of this species varies quite extensively, adults are commonly seen with gray heads, necks, and breasts, grey or brown backs and wings, and a white belly.  For those birders out there, the Dark-eyed Junco is said to be an excellent study on bird language with a trill song like a Chipping Sparrow, and a call that resembles a Black-Throated Blue Warbler.

Remember, you can find a whole host of images and information about the hundreds of species found in the Gordon Natural Area by accessing the GNA's Biota page.

Exciting Opportunities… but Apply Now! Applications due on Wednesday, December 15, 2021!
