Message From The Chair
Bike Lodi Supports Lodi Adopt-A-Child

Bikes rolled in as soon as Lodi Adopt-A-Child announced availability of Angel Cards with the personal holiday wishes of Lodi children. Bike Lodi once again rose to the occasion to assemble and/or perform safety checks on more than 145 bikes on December 4-5, and distribute bikes at the Lodi Adopt-A-Child party on December 11. Children and their parents arrived as early as 7:45 a.m. at 100 East Pine Street, Lodi, to be the first in line. Gratitude and appreciation go to the Bike Lodi members and friends who generously volunteered their time and mechanical ability to this wonderful community program: Robert Duclos, Andy Grutman, Anita Herman, Steven Knutson, Ron Morris, Norm Mowery, Brian Shirk and Lodi Cyclery, Kandas Vaccarezza.

Wishes to all for a very HEALTHY, safe, joyous holiday and prosperous new year. Here's to 2022!
2021 Bike Lanes
Bike Lodi and the City of Lodi partnered to create new bike lanes throughout the city in 2021.
Rails to Trails--So Much Beauty
by Norm Mowery
I have enjoyed the beauty of several Rails to Trails across the country, including the Katy Trail in Missouri, the Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Canal in Maryland, the Great Allegheny Passage in Pennsylvania, the Route of the Hiawatha in Idaho and most recently, the Mickelson Trail in South Dakota. Pedaling day after day has been a joy.

I pedaled the Mickelson Trail in late September as the Aspen turned yellow--absolutely beautiful! This trail is 109 miles long and goes from Edgemont to Deadwood with more than 100 bridges and four rock tunnels. The trail surface is primarily crushed limestone. I pedaled through Custer State Park navigating through herds of buffalo, and also through the Badlands.
The Great Central Valley Bicycle Route

Passing through thirteen counties and over thirty-four diverse cities and towns, the Great Central Valley Bicycle Route (GCVBR) visits the State capitol and county seats, numerous college towns, river towns, classic small agricultural “Valley towns,” sites of national, state and local historic importance, parks and natural areas, and a wide variety of agricultural landscapes.

The entire network of the Great Central Valley Bicycle Route is over 750 miles long and consists of the GCVBR Mainline, which is divided into three Route Segments (North, Central, and South). The GCVBR network also includes several Alternative Spur Routes, which provide routes for access to services and lodging in historic downtowns that are not on the Mainline. You may view the entire route network, with downloadable links to the three Mainline Route Segments and Alternative Spur Routes on the GCVBR Route Collection.

Third Park-to-Park Ride
September brought back the Park-to-Park Ride! More than 70 Lodians hit the bike paths and traveled to 10 parks throughout the city. The Lodi PD Partners provided no cost bike licenses to the participants. Everyone enjoyed a great day on the bike!
An Introduction to the
Motherlode Bicycle Coalition (MLBC)
by Rob Williams
I’d like to introduce you to the Motherlode Bicycle Coalition (MLBC) and invite Bike Lodi cyclists to extend bicycle riding into the foothills where you can enjoy our many rural roads and off-road rides. Learn more about MLBC and cycling in the Motherlode and the Sierras at https://motherlodebike.org/ The MLBC is an association sponsored by the California Bicycle Coalition Education Fund, a project of CalBike. We represent Mariposa, Tuolumne, Calaveras, Amador, and Alpine counties. We have 23 members, with a five member volunteer board and a volunteer executive director. Our mission is to increase safe roads for cycling, host bike rides and cycling events, and help make the Central Valley, the Motherlode and the Sierras bike-riding destinations. We offer monthly group rides of varying degrees of difficulty, as well as bike safety courses and family oriented events. MLBC also provides another important resource for bike advocacy at the MLBC Bike Valley to Sierra website, This website features the Caltrans and CalBike Bike Riding Tourism Report and Signature Bike Projects in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Calaveras and Alpine counties. With miles of rural roads, beautiful scenery, and back-country trails, the Motherlode and the Sierra Nevada have always been hidden gems for bicycle riding. Pre-pandemic, there were seven bike events that occurred in Caltrans District 10. While many of those events have been put on hold, three of these events are scheduled in 2022. We hope to see you there!

Upcoming Bike Events in the Motherlode:
March 20, 2022:
RideandWalk4Art
April 2, 2022: Party Pardee
April 16, 2022 (tentative): Mr. Frog's Wild Ride

Best Wishes for Safe Bike Riding in 2022,

Rob Williams MLBC Chairperson, CalBike Outreach Manager, Caltrans District 10 Member
