Welcome to the Oregon Region's
December 2021 Newsletter!

Hello Oregon Region!

December and the holidays are upon us. ‘Tis the season for rain, mud, and cold rides; but also warm stalls, bundled friends, and bareback blanket rides. As I reflect on the year, I am proud of what the Oregon Region and all the members within it have accomplished. In these strange times we all have grown (welcome Columbia!), found new ways to come together and learn, and remembered why we ride in the first place. For the fun of it! Congratulations to everyone who certified this year! And thank you so much to the Regional Youth Board for putting together and distributing the gifts and such a lovely Honor zoom. (The Regional Youth Board is looking for a few more awesome youths to join them next year!)

We held a revote to clarify the voucher program for 2022 and option 2 has prevailed. Option 2 stated the following: “The $100 vouchers approved for renewing 2022 members can be used as a credit towards an entry fee for any regional activity. This includes Regional rallies, clinics, lessons, camps, certifications, preps and seminars, etc.. The $100 can be divided between more than one activity. Any unused portion of the voucher will fold back into Regional reserves at the end of 2022 - no voucher amount will roll over to 2023. This is for renewing members only and does not apply to new members who joined after September 1st, 2021. Renewing members must pay both regional and National fees by December 31st, 2021.” Look for a checkbox on registration forms next year asking if the member is utilizing their voucher for the regional event.

May you all enjoy your holidays. May they be full of friends, family, togetherness, connection, peace and plenty of pony time! Looking forward to seeing you all in the New Year!!

Happy December Pony Club Family! I can't believe we are at the end of 2021 already. Even more unbelievable to me is that I am at the end of my Pony Club "career". I am officially "retiring" from the Regional Board at the end of this month, but don't you worry....I have already been asked to help out with Quiz Rally again next year. Quiz Rally will be on March 12 in Sisters, Oregon in 2022 which will be here before you know it. Don't wait until the last minute to start studying! We will have a mock quiz/prep session February 5th so mark your calendars for that now. At our final 2021 ORUSPC Regional Board meeting this month we went over the 2022 Calendar which should be included in this newsletter. Take a look at the regional activities we have planned and figure out which ones you would like to attend. We plan to have a robust year of regional activities and would love for as many of our members as possible attend the varied regional events we will have in 2022. Yay Pony Club! In the meantime, stay warm, stay safe, and happy holidays to you all! Cheers!

Region Finances

~ Michele Stevens, Treasurer ~

It's Regional Dues Renewal Time!! If you have not yet sent in your 2022 regional dues, they are due NOW! $40 per member. Club/Center leaders, please try to send in all renewing members with one payment. For members NOT renewed before January 1, you will not be considered "in good standing" and should not be participating in any 2022 club or regional activities until your dues are paid. So hurry - get up to date NOW!!!

My treasurer time will be over at the end of 2022. It has been a joy (yes, really!) and a pleasure to have held this position for 2021 and I will miss communicating with those of you in treasurer roles throughout the region. But I look forward to staying in touch as a member and seeing you at Regional activities next year! A safe and Happy December to all!

As always, if you have any questions regarding finances, treasurer or any other related PC questions, don't hesitate to contact me :)

CLUB NEWS

Columbia PC: Columbia Pony Club held our first ever certification and many members were successful certifying in the eventing track. We lucked out with dry and cold weather. Thank you to Lauren and Tayte for making it so fun and educational. Erica Welscht got her D1, D2, D3, Julia Gobel got her D1, D2 HM, Alana Garrison got her D1 & D2, Melody Tanner got her D1 & D2, Ryan Hash got her D1, D2 HM, Hadley Nelson got her D1, Emilia Frixione got her D1 & D2 and Luci Merrill got her D1 & D2.

Fox Hills: Going into winter we are gearing up for our Jump for Joy horse show! Jump for Joy will be held at the Clark County Event Center this January 21st and 23rd . We are still looking for sponsors and volunteers for those that would like to contribute.

Our club has been having mounted meetings instructed by Anna Collier and Rebecca Buehler, and monthly unmounted meetings taught by Cat and Mylo Ritson, with help from Paige Weaver and Leah Stubbs who recently taught our members about safe and correct leg bandaging and wrapping techniques.

The show jumping rally went very well, our teams had a lot fun. Fox Hills team 6 won 2nd place overall and Fox Hills team 5 won 3rd place overall. Aleena was pyramid poles Champion, Payton was cross rails Champion, Kylie was DHR Champion, and Leah was H2 Champion. Cat and Mylo were the stable managers, while Rebecca Buehler and Christine Piekarski coached our teams.

Pictured above are our two fantastic teams that competed in the Show Jump Rally. Mylo Ritson, Caroline Brandt, Peyton Coffland, Paige Weaver, Kylie Hoxeng, Cat Ritson, Aleena Harvey, Payton Lamping, and Berkeley;

Highland Riders PC:  This month our club had a great lesson on Equine First Aid with Anna Young. Our members learned how to use all the supplies in their rally first aid kit to treat minor wounds. For December we had a fun mounted games day and are looking forward to a festive holiday party this coming week. We will also be getting the barn and ponies all decorated for a Christmas Pony Rides Fundraiser.  Happy Holidays!!

Oregon Trail PC:  Oregon Trail is finishing the year as packed and fun as we started 2021! A fundraising sale of collected tack from members and friends made for a successful booth at the Canby Tack Sale! 3 club mounted lessons and an unmounted Christmas party have kept us all hopping and happy and we could not be more thankful for a GREAT a group of club members who support and encourage each other, no matter the task or activity. Cheers to everyone involved with OTPC, both 2 and 4 legged friends!

She started with Eventing in middle school and continued through High School. During College she rode on her college's IHSA team making it to Zone's in her senior year. After college, she bought her very first horse herself (Bren) and continued in eventing and eventually landing a teaching and managing job at a barn. She started a Pony Club Riding Center as a way to bring the Horsemanship and Management side of horses to her students who did not own horses. It has turned into one of the best decisions for her program. She is looking forward to helping all Centers and Clubs bring the best HM possible to their members.

Treasurer ~ Michele Stevens
Michele has served on the Regional Board since 2018. She is also currently the DC of Oregon Trail Pony Club. Her daughter, Emma, started in Pony Club at the end of 2005 with Oregon Trail, and did certifications every year, achieving her A Rating when she was 17.  Since then, Emma has continued to help out Pony Clubs in the US and the UK, by teaching and as an examiner.  Michele joined as an official Pony Club member, shortly after Emma went to university, and has evented to the Beginner Novice level, and achieved her D2 eventing certification.

Jordan is currently working towards her HA and A level certifications and is an assistant trainer at Inavale Farms in Corvallis. Jordan looks forward to "seeing" everyone this year and can't wait for the accomplishments 2021 will bring!

Her daughter, Madeline, is a D3 EV with Highland Riders. Anna has fond memories of growing up riding horses, but now lives vicariously through her two horse-crazy daughters.
