HE TAPU TE WAI: Rāhui Implemented
Iwi Pou Tiaki were joined by partners of WKUKT to tuku karakia this moring at 6.00am. The implementation of the rāhui restricts swimming, recreational fishing and the taking of untreated water from the wider Waikanae river system.
The rōpū gathered at Ōtaihanga to place a temporary rāhui over the Waikanae awa, the many tributaries (including the Mazengarb) and the immediate foreshore area. The placement of signs through out the awa were methodically erected by Steve Bielby, DOC.
With the continual rain this week the rāhui will be observed for a further week. We will inform you asap when the date has been confirmed.
A special mihi to whānaunga, Moana Parata and Kahu Ropata for representing us today for the benefit of the kaupapa. Kahu (Iwi Partnership Manager) for KCDC also brought his colleagues to tautoko, WKUKT secretariat - Monique Engelen (KCDC), Liana Stupples (Comms advisor).
TIKANGA HAUMARU COVID RESPONSE
Aotearoa reaches 90% fully vaxed!!!!
We have officially cracked the 90% fully vaccination milestone With just over a week out from Christmas Day, celebrations have started early as Tāmaki Makaurau opened their borders on Wednesday. This brings forth cautionary awareness in keeping ourselves safe. We advise that the following be noted before leaving home this Christmas.
Closer to home!
This week we were able open up our pataka to support a whānau who were advised to go into isolation for 7 days and follow MOJ guidelines to be tested..
Last Friday mokopuna arrived at their Kāpiti whānau whare for Christmas from Eltham. And as we know whānau being whānau, everyone assembled to celebrate the arrival of these mokopuna, overjoyed with happiness, they greeted them with kisses and cuddles.
On Saturday, they were informed that the mokopuna were close contacts to a tamaiti in their class who had been diagnosed with Delta.
It is fair to say that the whānau were not prepared for this scenario as the prognosis affected 3 separate whare, one of which held 4 generations and 4 pakake were unable to work. With their Whānau Plan in hand, they were able to follow these simple guidelines and were confident that together they can do this!!!
Local doctor Christine Coulter-Heron from Team Medical was a star by quickly provided them with medical advice and ensured they were tested and comforted during this time.
Taranaki is now facing its biggest Covid caseload of the pandemic after 15 cases were announced on Wednesday – 14 of which are from Eltham Primary School. read more
As for our whānau, they were pleased to report that they all received two negative test results and are able to enter the world again. This type of action is whakapapa protection at its best!
This is a prime example of how easy whānau can be affected this Christmas and we urge that whānau be vigilant this festive season and follow the necessary guidelines.
When venturing from home, the new standards are to remember too .....
WEAR A MASK

PASS SCAN IN!!!
Vax and Win!!!
Congratulations to Jonathan Barr and Tiffany Richards who are not only double vaxed but have won a trip to Kāpiti Island this Christmas.
