Dear Good People of Grace,

Our Annual Meeting will be held this Sunday, December 19th in the parish hall at 11:45 following our Holy Eucharist Service.

All members of Grace are encouraged to attend the meeting, with a Chili Lunch and fellowship to follow.

In preparation for the meeting, please review The 2021 Annual Report.

Business of the meeting will include:

  • A vote on a proposed Bylaws Amendment
  • A thank you for their valuable service to those leaving our Vestry, and an acknowledgement of continuing members.
  • A  vote to elect four new Vestry Members.
  • A thank you to our outgoing Treasurer and a welcome to our new Treasurer.
  • An opportunity to discuss reports presented in the the Annual Report, which will be distributed in advance and at the meeting.
Our Vestry has voted on an amendment of our ByLaws. By Canon Law, we are required to inform our congregation of the amendment at least 20 days before you will be asked to vote on the amendment, which we will be doing during the Annual Meeting. All present will vote on the Bylaws amendment and on the slate of Vestry Nominees. If you have any questions, please contact your Senior Warden, Ben Scales at (863) 529-8312.

We have four seats to fill in our Vestry for 2022, and since we have four nominees, we will vote by acclamation on December 19th. Congratulations to our nominees and we are grateful for your willingness to serve. If you have any questions regarding nominations, please contact Rev. Milly.

We'd like to congratulate our rising Senior and Junior Wardens for 2022. We are pleased to announce that Elaine Potter will be our Senior Warden and Scott McKenzie will be our Junior Warden. We are excited that both Elaine and Scott were baptized as infants at Grace Church. We look forward to welcoming you to your new positions on December 19th. We will also welcome Tara Lonneman as our new Grace Church Treasurer.

We are rooted in tradition and moving forward as we grow and deepen in this Body of Christ. Please join us at the Annual Meeting where Ministry Program Reports will be given and we'll celebrate our outgoing Vestry members. Please see below for important information for our upcoming Annual Meeting.

THE PROPOSED AMENDMENT

An amendment to the Bylaws of the Grace Episcopal Church Endowment Fund has been proposed. The proposed amendment would allow the Endowment Committee to earmark a limited portion of distributions from the Fund for church operations.

The proposed amendment is to amend Article V, Paragraph B, Sub-paragraph 1) to read as follows:

“B. Purposes of distributions:

1) For capital improvements, debt reduction, or building programs, or operations of Grace Episcopal Church. No more than twenty-five percent (25%) of all distributions over any five-year period may be allocated for church operations.

INTRODUCING OUR 2022 VESTRY NOMINEES

Joe Aull

Cheryl and I arrived in Asheville in April 1980 with my transfer to a position with the Blue Ridge Parkway.

In the months preceding the birth of our first son, Bill, in August of that year, we began our search for a church home. We were astonished at the number of Episcopal parishes in Buncombe County – 12 or so at that time. We began our search, including several Lutheran churches in deference to my heritage. We didn’t complete our circuit before Bill arrived and visited Grace shortly after his birth.

The reception we received from the congregation and rectors at the eleven o’clock service was so warm and welcoming, even with our noisy newborn, that our decision was made that day.

We joined Grace, with my confirmation happening soon after. While we expected to be here only several years, opportunities arose at the Parkway and we have been here since. I served with the National Park Service for 33 years with 28 of those here on the Parkway as Administrative Officer. Our sons, Bill and Michael, were both baptized and confirmed at Grace. Cheryl found a home in the choir and I’ve served three terms on the vestry, serving as Junior and Senior Warden at various times.

Most recently, I’ve served as Treasurer for seven or so years, ending that role this year.

Cheryl and I have been active and involved in a variety of ways throughout our time at Grace. We have watched and been involved in the many changes which have occurred here through the years and I’m excited and hopeful as we begin the next phase of growth and development of our spiritual community at Grace.

Andrew Beasley

Andrew Beasley is a father, husband and teacher.  He and his wife Sarah settled into Grace about 5 years ago following loving stints at Holy Spirit and All Souls.  Miles, 11, was baptized in Mars Hill while Kendall, 6, was christened in Biltmore Village.  Andrew and Sarah met at an EYC event many years ago in Knoxville, TN.  The family has lived in Weaverville for 9 years and share their home with an obnoxious dachshund called Leo.

Terri Frue

Terri Frue was raised in McConnells, South Carolina and was an active member of Olivet Presbyterian church before moving to Asheville. Terri and her husband Jack were married here at Grace in 2003, and she was confirmed into the Episcopal Church at Grace in 2004. Their twins Bailey and Cameron were baptized and confirmed at Grace. Terri has participated in several ministries, including Room in the Inn mobile shelter for homeless women. Terri’s interests include walking, gardening, baking, crocheting and sewing, and spending family time at the lake.

Katherine Kaderabek

Katherine Kaderabek is a life-long Episcopalian. She and her husband, Todd have been members of Grace (on and off) for around 19 years. They have two grown children who were both baptized and raised at Grace (Thames and Miller) and a sweet labradoodle, Charlie. Katherine is Managing Broker at Beverly-Hanks Realtors and in her free time you'll find her outside exploring our beautiful mountains or enjoying peaceful time on Folly Beach

Welcome Tara Lonneman ~ Grace Church Treasurer 2022

Tara Lonneman was introduced to Grace Episcopal church through her participation in Centering Prayer and in August of 2021, she became a confirmed member of Grace. She volunteered as a CCD teacher at St. Pius x church in Edgewood, Kentucky and began a Sunday kid's program at St. Leo the Great, a refugee congregation, in Cincinnati Ohio.  While living overseas, she explored various denominations and consistently attended St. Andrews, an Anglican Parish of Kohimarama, in New Zealand.  She has an MBA and an Accounting degree, and works at a local CPA where she communicates monthly reports to small business owners in the Asheville area.  As a recent home-owner in Weaverville, Tara can be found working on house projects or planning her next outdoor adventure!

Please mark your calendars for December 19th, and be sure to join us at our Annual Parish Meeting.

Peace,

Rev. Milly Morrow, Rector
Ben Scales, Senior Warden
