Village Board Meeting Updates
December 16 Committee of the Whole meeting: On Thursday, the Village Board first received and discussed a staff presentation regarding proposed Glencoe Golf Club driving range facility upgrades, which would include the installation of appropriate height protective netting, berm creation and landscape improvements along Westley Road. To gather additional information on the proposed project, Trustees directed staff to conduct further analysis and neighborhood outreach and report back to the Board at a later date. In addition, the Board discussed potential updates to the building permit extension fees following resident concerns regarding lengthy residential construction projects. The Board instructed staff to develop various possible alternatives to discourage lengthy construction periods, such as increased and/or escalating permit fees, and report back to the Board for future consideration.
December 16 Village Board meeting: Following months of extensive financial planning, the Village Board voted unanimously to approve the Village’s Calendar Year 2022 Budget on Thursday. The Calendar Year 2022 Budget includes the largest Community Investment Program in decades, as well as a significant use of supplemental revenue resources through Federal and State grants, as well as private donations. The Board also approved several other financial items, including the Village and Glencoe Public Library’s property tax levy, a variety of critical equipment purchases and a renewed cable franchise agreement with Comcast.

Questions on Omicron
With the emergence of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, many are wondering how it spreads, where it has been detected and how to fight it. Currently, based on guidance from public health agencies, vaccination is the best way to prevent severe illness, slow transmission and reduce the risk of additional variants emerging. The CDC has expanded its recommendations for COVID-19 vaccine booster shots to include everyone 16 years of age and older. At this time, only the Pfizer vaccine is approved and recommended for adolescents aged 16 and 17, and can be taken six months after completing their primary vaccination series To learn more here about this new strain of COVID-19 and how to reduce your risk of getting it.

Have A Sustainable Holiday Season!
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, LED lights use 75% to 80% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last 25 times as long. Although LED lights initially tend to be more expensive, they lower energy bills and cost less in the long run. For those lighting a holiday tree during the entire holiday season, the Village encourages using incandescent light bulbs would cost around $10.00 - with LEDs, it’s $0.27.
