PUKETAPU ON TOP OF THE WORLD

Puketapu kōrero ka irihia! Puketapu whenua ka horahia! Puketapu tāngata ka toa!

New Plymouth Airport’s new Te Hono terminal has won an international award for its airport exterior at the Prix Versailles Airports 2021.
Congratulations to Puketapu hapū and renowned artist Rangi Kipa for your inspiration and tireless work on this project.
Te Hono’s design reflects the origin story of Puketapu hapū on whose ancestral land it stands, and was a collaboration between the hapū, design consultants Beca and builders Clelands.
It was in competition with huge projects including an $8 billion upgrade at New York’s La Guardia airport, Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport, Athens International Airport, Kazakhstan’s Hazrat Sultan International Airport and the Philippines’ Clark International Airport.

Wānanga Taonga Puoro

Muru Raupatu Marae hosted the inaugral Te Atiawa Taonga Puoro Wānanga early this month. Facilitated by Morgan Watson, David and Kenny Trinder, this unique wānanga was an opportunity to explore the history of taonga puoro, learn how the taonga are made and share wind instrument knowledge. It was also a time to learn how to play the instruments in ceremonial occasions and create composition. It was wonderful to have like-minded whānau members gather in a familiar setting to learn from each other and share the experience together. Each participant not only went away with three wooden taonga to share with their whānau but new knowledge associated with them.
