CyberDragons News!
The JAMS Robotics team, CyberDragons, has added a second team with all the same students so that both the robots they’ve built can compete and more of the students can actively participate. The two teams are CyberDragons Bob and CyberDragons Petunia. A big THANK YOU to the Santa Monica Science Magnet, Boeing, Neuro-AI LLC, and American Science and Surplus for supporting the CyberDragons teams!
CONGRATULATIONS - they placed 3rd and 5th out of 14 teams in the meet on December 19! The next meet is on Sunday, January 16th. Details for meets are at League A2 – Los Angeles | FIRST® Tech Challenge of Southern California/Greater Los Angeles (firsttechsocal.org).

Parent Check-in and Outreach - Chat with Nancy & Liz
Much like the eight Coffee with the Counselor from last school year, these six Chats with Nancy and Liz will be informal/fun parent driven Q&A sessions.

Personalized Project-Based Learning (PPBL) Pathway
We will be presenting at the January 25th samohi experience virtual event for any interested parent and student. Then at JAMS, in the 8th grade science classes February 4th and we will have another PBL Pathway virtual info session for parents on Feb 15th. If the student and parent would like to speak with me before then, please give them my email (jrishe@smmusd.org ).

Attendance & what to do if your child is absent or leaving early:
ABSENCES
All absences and tardies must be excused by parents or guardians. Parents may report absences via the JAMS website (click on the "Find It Fast" button at the top right and then select "Report an Absence"; or click here) or by leaving a detailed phone message at 310-452-2326 x72201. Please be sure to provide your child's name, ID number or birthdate, date of absences and a detailed reason for the absence.
LEAVING EARLY
Please let us know first thing in the morning if your child will be leaving school early. You may either fill out the online "Report an Absence" form or write a note and have your child deliver it to the Attendance Office before the start of school. The note should contain your child's name, the date/time they will be leaving school early, the reason for leaving early and a phone number where the parent can be reached for verification. If your child is leaving early on a Tuesday, please allow an additional 10 minutes for them to complete their Covid testing before leaving campus.
Absences that are not cleared within 72 hours will be recorded as truant. For more information on attendance policies, please visit the JAMS website or refer to SMMUSD's Attendance FAQ page.
