Dear Partners and Supporters,

We are pleased to share with you Malaria Consortium’s recently launched 2021-2025 Strategy - driven by our vision of a world progressing towards Universal Health Coverage, with a marked and sustained reduction in malaria and other communicable diseases.

In the next five years, our strategic priorities will focus on accelerating the reduction in the burden of these diseases, supporting health systems to be more responsive and resilient, strengthening data-informed decision-making, and using our expertise and learnings to strengthen policy and practice.
Twenty-one months on from the WHO announcement of a global pandemic, the world is still managing COVID-19 alongside a raft of existing diseases that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations and put greater pressure on already fragile health systems. According to the 2021 World Malaria Report, there were an estimated 241 million malaria cases and 627,000 malaria deaths worldwide in 2020.

In the next five years we will continue drawing on our strong partnerships with governments, research institutes and other actors in the 15 countries where we have a presence to improve health outcomes and drive progress towards achieving malaria reduction targets, Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals - progress that had already begun to stall even before the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are at a time of both challenge and opportunity and despite immense pressure on health systems worldwide, the pandemic has galvanised global cooperation around common health threats. We know that resilient health systems, equitable access to health care, data in decision making and digital adoption is imperative in supporting countries to reduce the burden of disease and build sustainable equity in access to healthcare.

Through commitment and collaboration, our strategy will drive new ways of working, through public-private partnerships, innovation and new geographies for proven interventions at scale. Our plans will support communities and governments to recover from the impact of COVID-19, through disease surveillance, diagnostics, vaccines and treatments. We will continue to be guided by evidence and experience, to design and implement new interventions and adapt existing solutions - ensuring quality health care for all and helping to save lives.

We are grateful for your continued support of our work.
