It was a new moon on earth earlier this evening, and there was a total solar eclipse visible from Antarctica. Maybe you got to see it from your vantage point.
You were always the most ardent listener to my stories, as well as reader of these occasional newsletters. I hope you don't mind me sharing the link to your Celebration of Life service with the rest of my readers. Mainly because the footage of the first few minutes of everyone arriving, while I played your favourite pieces on the old church piano, is so moving.
Plus the second piece I played (after Rameau's Les Barricades Mystérieuses) is a short composition of mine called This Morning. When it arrived one morning in 2017 with a melody and bassline so simple and whole, it was like it fell out of the sky. It was a favourite of Donald's (see Part 2 of this three part email series) and he played it often on the harp.
On what would have been your 83rd birthday in October, I was also really touched by Benny devoting a whole episode of The Gleaning to music by your daughters, your grandkids and even your four year old great-granddaughter. So I include the link to Ben's 'The Nepotism Episode' as well.
