Greetings and a word from Joy
Dear supporter
In the past week or two everyone has probably seen some kind of change to their life because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. It may be as small as wearing a mask in the shops again or as big as not being able to be with a relative who is far away or very ill. For Uzima is has bought great fear into the community, both fear of the disease but mainly now, fear of the school shutting again and the country going into lockdown. Vaccinations are not available to the vast majority in rural Western Kenya so there is no protection from the disease and yet again, the poor are at the bottom of the pile with very little hope of this changing. However, food prices increasing and children not being in school is a greater threat, with all that that means to someone vulnerable living under a corrupt Government who, it's fair to say, don’t care.
My plans to visit remain in place for January but this, of course, could change with very little notice. If Kenya goes on the red list again then the visit cannot go ahead and it would make things very difficult to operate if Kenya is in lockdown. If you believe in prayer, please pray that I may be able to get to Uzima, trouble free and fulfil the reasons for my visit, which are many.
One thing I am very much looking forward to, is seeing the beginning of the Five Talents programme falling into place and visiting a Savings Group when they meet. Although we don’t expect this long-term project to leap into action immediately, the trainers have now been employed and there should be one or two Savings Groups up and running during my trip.
Please keep watching our social media posts for updates.
Mungu Akubariki,
