Action Needed Now
A Special Legislative Session begins Tuesday, December 7th. Call & email your lawmakers now! Urge them to 1) reject tax cuts that benefit the rich and instead choose to INVEST that $600 million in Arkansas, and 2) reject any political grandstanding bills, like a Texas copycat abortion bans. For more information on the tax cuts and the potential damage to programs for women, children, the elderly and disabled, and specific things you can do click here.

Keeping Elections Fair and Equal

11:00 a.m.
(Zoom Meeting Link Below)
Disappointed about the recent Redistricting results? Frustrated with elected officials? Want to do something about it? Find your options for fighting voter suppression by working with outstanding local activists. There is way more than voter registration available to you.
Discover how you can support local nonpartisan organizations seeking fair and equal elections. Our scheduled speakers are Senator Joyce Elliott (Get Loud Arkansas), Loriee Evans (Indivisible Little Rock and Central Arkansas), and Devita Harden (League of Women Voters of Pulaski County). Find the voter engagement organization/activity that best fits you, your talents and your time.
About the speakers:
Senator Joyce Elliott represents Senate District 31, comprising parts of Little Rock and Pulaski County. She was elected to the Senate in 2008, after having served three terms in the House of Representatives, from 2001 through 2006. She has recently launched a non-profit organization named Get Loud Arkansas and is speaking to us about this effort.
Loriee Evans is the lead organizer for Indivisible Little Rock and Central Arkansas, a grassroots all-volunteer organization that advocates for voting rights and coordinates voter registration, education, and mobilization campaigns. Loriee is passionate about an Arkansas in which every eligible voter votes, knowing their vote will be counted.
Devita Harden has been a member of the League of Women Voters since 2011. She started her League membership in Ames, Iowa. Currently Devita is a member of the League of Women Voters of Pulaski County. She is a member of the Leadership Team and serves as co-chair of Voter Services. Devita works to ensure that all eligible citizens have a fair and equal opportunity to register to vote and participate in elections.

White Elephant Rummage Sale a Success
Amanda Potter Cole, AAUW Little Rock Fundraising Chair, reports a net total of $1,670.72 for this year's fundraiser. This is just shy of our fundraising record in 2019 of $1,700! We engaged the public much more than ever before this year, with a larger percentage of funds coming from non-members. Your contributions are still needed to help us break the 2019 record. All donations will be matched by the AAUW National Board. You can make a contribution online by clicking here.
Co-Presidents Zenobia Harris and Maria Jones send their gratitude and appreciation to all the wonderful people that made this Sale successful. The weather was fabulous. The Unitarian Universalist Church parking lot was spacious and proved to be a great location. Amanda's planning team included herself, Nell Matthews, Lottie Adams, and the Co-Presidents.
Thanks to the all AAUW members and friends and family who donated items. Thanks to Amanda who chaired the event, doing all the hard work it took to make things go well before, during and after and who successfully guided our team of strong-willed women. Thanks to Nell Matthews who rented and managed the storage unit, made all arrangements with the Church, talked customers into buying things, and much more. Thank you to Lottie Adams and Mary McGehee who staffed the AAUW information table and helped customers, and to volunteers Gloria Bastidas, Jean Pennucci, Maureen Terrafranca, Debra Tillery, Ella Walker Roth, Sandy Smith, Pat Landes, Madge Helm, Sondra Hushaw, and Winnie Stamps. We also recognize Nell's son, Nell's friend with a truck, various UUC members, Lottie's daughter, and Maria's husband and granddaughter; their assistance made the difference at critical times.
