“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

This is our last newsletter of the year. Please join us for the I-RISE Holiday Happy Hour and our last few activities of the year, and we wish you all Happy New Year!

Holiday Happy Hour

Friday, December 10th at 5:30

Please join us for the last event of the year before we all take a break to rest,  rejuvenate, and ready ourselves for 2022 election work. Right after Action Hour, we’ll head to Loretta to toast another year of working to improve the political situation in this country. Appetizers are on I-RISE and we’ll have fun prizes!

RSVP is not required, but it would be helpful to have an idea of how many people to expect. We’d much appreciate it if you would either respond to this email or send an email to  indivisible.rise,newburyport@gmail.com if you plan to come. We hope you can make it!

Action Hour

Friday, December 10th at 4:00-5:00

This will be our last in person Action Hour of the year at the Central Congregational Church on Titcomb St in Newburyport. We wear masks (as required by the church) and the room is large with high ceilings and good circulation, so there is plenty of space to spread out.

We’re writing postcards to NH voters to start the process of encouraging people to register and vote in upcoming elections. Planting the seeds for the 2022 midterm elections is critical, and our neighboring state needs our help to reelect Democrat Maggie Hassan to the Senate. She won by a very narrow margin last time, so every single vote makes a difference.

Come write a packet of 10 with the group or pick up one or more packets to continue writing through the end of the year. If you cannot make it to Action Hour and want to start writing with us, please sign up here to join our writing team.

Stop the Lies and Spread the Truth

Wed, Dec 8 at 11:00 am & Dec 15 at 5:00 pm

We’re meeting two more times this year to help limit the spread of political lies on social media. These lies threaten democracy and create discord. Volunteers help to combat them by uncovering disinformation and reporting it to Common Cause and creating and sharing positive counter narratives with the Truth Brigade. Register here to learn about these tactics and get to work combating the lies.

If you already have trained to monitor social media with Common Cause, please join one of our working groups for advice, troubleshooting, and camaraderie. These one-hour sessions are being held Tues, 12/7 at 11:00, Thurs, 12/9 at 5:00, and Friday 12/10 at noon for the next two weeks. Email us at  indivisible.rise.newburyport@gmail.com for more information and the Zoom link.

2022 Strategy Meeting

Tuesday, January 18, 2022

With so much riding on the 2022 midterm elections, there will be a lot to think about and plan as we consider where to focus our efforts. The needs will be great in many races around the country to keep (and, hopefully, grow) Democratic control in the House and Senate. That’s a tall order, and candidates in key states will need all hands on deck to succeed. That is particularly critical given the many state laws that have passed setting onerous voting restrictions. Please join us on Zoom at our first meeting of 2022 when we discuss key races and strategy for campaigning efforts leading up to the November 2022 elections. More details will follow.

 Donate Early (and Often)

Giving early in the election cycle makes a bigger difference than waiting until close to an election. 2022 candidates are gearing up and staffing up now to get their campaigns underway. Now is the time to give!

A good way to make sure your donations to campaigns are strategic and impactful is to donate to a targeted fund of the Boston-based all-volunteer organization, Force Multiplier. Donations through Force Multiplier’s US Senate Early Impact and US House Early Impact slates of candidates provide early money to selected political campaigns.

You also can make tax deductible donations through a couple of Force Multiplier funds. These include their Democracy in Action Slate, which educates, registers, and turns out voters in five key states; and their Heartland Fund, which registers and mobilizes rural voters and fights for fair elections in Senate battleground states.
