The current energy crisis, stemming from a complicated set of factors, has resulted in price spike, driving up inflation and threatening economic recovery. Heading into winter, Europe faces higher utility bills, more expensive products and looming risks of slowdown in economic growth. Join the online Pan-Baltic discussion on energy situation in the Baltics, where the following questions will be raised:
  • What should the EU do to ensure collective energy security policy?
  • Is decarbonization threatening Europe's energy security?
  • How can Baltic countries better coordinate their approach to foster resilience of the energy sector?

THOR-STEN VERTMANNMember of Cabinet of Kadri Simson, EU Commissioner for Energy
Thor-Sten Vertmann was responsible for energy in Brussels during the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. His work is focused on Electricity Internal Market, energy efficiency, energy label and ecodesign and Regional Initiatives – BEMIP and Baltic Synchronisation.
DARIUS ŠILENSKIS | Chief Executive Officer at AB Klaipėdos Nafta
Darius has stepped in as KN CEO in 2019, before that he held various executive positions within the company. Prior to KN, Darius worked in P.K.N. Orlen, biggest refining and downstream capital group in central Europe, also took executive positions in companies, belonging to Achema group, one of the biggest regional capital groups. 
GATIS JUNGHANS | Board Member, Augstsprieguma tikls (AST)
An executive with 20+ years experience in energy sector. Since 2016, Gatis serves as a member of the management board at AST – Latvian electricity transmission system operator, where he is responsible for system operation and markets. Before the current position Mr. Junghans has worked in other areas of electricity supply chain.
KALEV KALLEMETS, Ph.D. | Co-founder, CEO, Fermi Energia OÜ
Co-founder and CEO of Fermi Energia that has been formed to develop the possibility of introducing a new generation small modular reactor in Estonia to meet the security of supply of Estonian energy and achieve the climate goals. Kalev is also an Estonian politician. Previously, he was a member of the Riigikogu, representing the Estonian Reform Party.
HANNES REINULA | Member of the Management Board, Eastman Specialties
Hannes currently runs the Eastman chemical manufacturing site in Ida-Virumaa, Estonia. Also, currently is a member of the management board in the Federation of Estonian Chemical Industry. Prior to his current position, Hannes has 25 years work experience in chemical manufacturing. Throughout this time, he held different technical and managerial positions.

Pauls is Chief Asset Management Officer at BlueOrange Bank where he manages discretionary investment portfolios and provides strategic investment solutions for clients in Latvia and abroad. He has over 20 years’ experience in finance and is a passionate advocate of how properly functioning capital markets play a critical role in forming and upholding free and prosperous societies.
