Dear GOVA Region 6 Stakeholders,
Please join the University of Mary Washington and other GOVA Region 6 stakeholders for a collaborative discussion about internships in our region. Stakeholders around the region will convene on December 10, 2021 at 9 am via Zoom to discuss a funded regional program opportunity designed to enhance our regional efforts toward creating internships and career opportunities that will meet workforce needs of our employers and prepare our high school and college students to be work-ready.

As you may know, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) is intensifying its efforts focused on workforce development and career readiness. One of the initiatives is a Virginia Talent and Opportunity Partnership (VTOP) Grant with the goal of creating a regional (GOVA Region 6) event to promote internships and experiential work experiences for K-12 and College students in the region. As part of the application process, SCHEV has asked that key stakeholders in Region 6, become familiar with the plan and have the opportunity to ask questions and provide input in the grant submission.
If our region is awarded the grant, we will be resourced to adapt online employer tools to support internships, support additional preparation for students, and host a region-wide event specifically for internships. A dedicated role will focus on regional internships and helping employers and educational providers gain access to state tools and refine those tools to meet our specific needs. In order to do this effectively, it will take all of us.
