Welcome to December. We are delighted it’s another holiday season.

In this penultimate publication for the year, we have analyzed a couple of data for you and a few other highlights from our activities in November. As you may have heard, PPDC is hiring and it won’t be for long.
PPDC And PERL Find Solutions for an Effective Open Contracting System in Nigeria 
 

To find solutions and forge partnerships between government, CSOs and media, PPDC in partnership with PERL Nigeria, met with key stakeholders in the civic and media space. 

Since 2016, when the Nigerian government made a commitment to the open contracting process, Nigeria has experienced a number of challenges which has prevented an ideal open system. 

We brainstormed and identified challenges impeding the smooth implementation of Open Contracting in Nigeria. 
 
Make Naija Stronger: State Health Ranking

We were part of the Make Naija Stronger workshop to validate the upcoming state healthcare ranking methodology in partnership with ONE Campaign and other stakeholders. The ranking is meant to evaluate the performance of health services and implementation of policies in the 36 states and FCT. 

Raising Voices for Change

As the 2023 elections draw near, it is crucial to highlight key changes and policies citizens want to see from our elected officials, especially as it relates to the implementation of projects. 

On 10th November, we were on Wazobia FM, Abuja to enlighten rights holders on how they can engage the government ahead of the Area council elections and general elections in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

2022 proposed Education Budget

Have you seen the 2022 proposed education budget? 

Now if you haven’t, here is a breakdown: N139.2bn was allocated for UBEC and only N31bn will be spent on capital projects.

With the high number of out-of-school children in Nigeria, we expect better funding for basic education infrastructure.

Even more disturbing is that despite the deplorable state of the education sector, more than 80% of the 2022 Proposed Budget for education (N875.9bn) will be spent on salaries and overhead costs.
