RÉCIT A2T
Immersive Reader at the Cree School Board
RÉCIT A2T delivered a workshop for the Cree School Board that was adapted from Karine Martin’s “Office 365: Supporting all Adult Learners with Assistive Tech Tools” from L’Équipe-choc SÉC.
The focus of the workshop was to explore Immersive Reader. If you’re part of an Office 365 board, this is definitely a tool worth using.
Immersive Reader will read any Word document aloud, translate words, identify nouns, verbs, syllables, or open up a picture dictionary with support for two different languages. It also works with other Microsoft applications and on mobile devices with Microsoft Lens.
To help increase readability and reduce distractions, Immersive Reader allows a student to view a Word document in a minimal and decluttered view, while increasing the font size and/or line spacing.
We also covered basic guidelines to help make documents more accessible, regardless if one is using Google or Microsoft products.
The most important part of the workshop was that while accessibility features can be crucial for students with learning disabilities, it also ensures the document is more readable for everyone!
Want to learn more how you can get started in creating your own accessible documents? Please watch 15 Accessibility Tips in 5 minutes created by RÉCIT A2T and Micheline Ammar from L’Équipe-choc Pedagogical English sector.

Centre Support
Do you know your TLT?
A Technology Lead Teacher (TLT) is part of a larger network that is designed to help teachers and centres with the integration of technology into teaching practice. They are the ed tech point people in their respective centres or boards. Often, they take on this role in addition to teaching by responding to the various needs of their colleagues. They attend regular network meetings, share their successes, offer suggestions for improvement, and outline their individual realities. Each one, as unique as a snowflake, faces different circumstances within their respective centre. Even though their tasks vary, one thing that they all have in common is their generosity of service. They are selfless and innovative and I could not understand the reality of each centre without them. I want to extend a great big thank you to the TLT’s for their dedication and collaboration. If you have not yet met your TLT, reach out and thank them for all that they do. I wish you all a wonderful December and we look forward to what is to come in the new year.

Project RISE
Return on Investment
Emilie has been thinking about this term lately and how it relates to teachers implementing and creating digital learning resources. This reflection was prompted by the following article from Edsurge: Here’s Why Teachers Adopt New Tech — and Why They Don’t
The article proposes a series of questions to help think through purchasing technology, but they can also be used to help us reflect on what kinds of digital learning opportunities we might want to design for our students.
Read the rest of Emilie’s article on the new RÉCIT AGE Blogspot.
