Elisabeth in Tanzania

Elisabeth i Tanzania

"My name is Elisabeth. I am an anthropology student that has been a volunteer in Night Light Café for two years and is part of the management team. The working- and daily life of Nigerian sex workers, which is characterized by violence, deprivation of liberty and lack of protection, has touched my heart.

That is why I, among others, have conducted fieldwork on their relationship to Christianity in the fall of 2020, and I have thereby built close relationships with the women. I got to know them as beautiful and resourceful women with big hearts.

This fall, I chose to take my internship in Tanzania. Coincidentally, I ended up in a start-up NGO called STEPS that works with vulnerable people like drug addicts. The leader, who has worked with sex workers in former NGOs, has an extensive network and is trying to start projects for this group of people. Therefore, we have been on several field trips in the sex worker environment where a former peer worker has connected us to several of these women, whom we have interviewed about their dreams for the future, and challenges in life.

I am grateful to have met these women and the beauty and the heart that I have experienced in the Nigerian sex workers I recognize in them. I am passionate about giving both groups new life opportunities."

We are six students from the IT University in Copenhagen, studying a bachelor's in Software Development in the 5th semester. Concerning a project study, we collaborated with EXIST and made an IT feasibility study for them. The project included various meetings which provided insight and knowledge about the organization. Afterwards, we tried to help them with a technical solution for handling various information.

We chose to work with EXIST and help them with one of their challenges, as the organization supports a good cause and a cause to which we would like to help and contribute.
We have been truly happy with our collaboration with EXIST and proud to be allowed to help such a kind-hearted and committed organization.
