MCL eNews December 2021 edition

We wish all of our My Community Life members and family a very happy, safe and well deserved break over this holiday period.

Tell us what actions we need to take to build a healthy, safe and inclusive Kingston!

We've worked closely with the community to help identify priority health and wellbeing areas you want us to target.

Now we're working on action plans to help us get there, and we need your help!
Topics include physical activity, healthy eating, mental health, community safety and much more!

You can participate in a number of ways:
  • Complete our community survey about what needs to be done
  • Add your idea to improve health and wellbeing here - type your idea or add a photo or image
  • Come and talk to us at one of our community consultation events:
    • 18 December 2021 at Dingley Village Market 8.30am-1pm
Find out more about this project and how you can be involved at Your Kingston Your Say

Consultation will be open until 5pm Monday 20 December 2021
Following the Bureau of Meteorology’s recent announcement to expect La Niña weather patterns over the coming months, Kingston Council is contacting local community groups to remind them to be prepared, just in case.

Whilst no official warnings have been issued, this heavy rainfall announcement provides us with a timely reminder that many areas of Kingston are low-lying and it’s important we are ready for high rainfall events – especially as most flooding events have historically occurred between December and February.

Being prepared can help reduce the effects of flooding and reduce recovery costs.
  • Check local area flood guides
  • Build an Emergency Kit
  • Prioritise cleaning any drains, gutters and downpipes
  • Sign up to receive alerts and warnings from the VicEmergency app or website (www.emergency.vic.gov.au/respond)
  • Store electrical equipment and valuables off the ground where possible
  • Make sure your members know what to do in case of an emergency, including emergency exit routes and assembly locations.
In a life-threatening emergency, call ‘000’; you can reach the SES Flood Storm Emergency line on 132 500. And the Vic Emergency Hotline is 1800 226 226.
Our Cultural Diversity Week Grants program is offering grants of up to $2,500 to assist the community to develop innovative projects to support Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities during the COVID-19 recovery phase. If you are a community or faith-based organisation and keen to work in partnership, be part of our journey in 2022!

Applications open Monday 15 November 2021 and close at 5pm on Monday 17 January 2022.

Grant conditions and further information can be found on the information sheet and application form. For more information please contact elisabetta.robecchi@kingston.vic.gov.au
