Happy December!
Can you believe we're already at the end of the year? I'm finding it hard to believe as well. Another year of pandemic protocols, lock downs and curfews has not dampened the spirits of our creative community or discouraged us from our mission to shine a targeted spotlight on Trinidad and Tobago works of art, literature, fashion, film, music, theater, and design being produced by up-and-coming artists and those from marginalized and under-represented groups.
The yuletide season is upon us and though the last two years has brought its share of uncertainty, we have a lot to celebrate and of course want to celebrate with you.
On December 4th, Serenity - The fine art, fashion and jewelry of Arlene Singh opened to glowing reviews. Serenity runs until December 17th, so you have ample to check it out.
Our second "A Day in the YARD" kicks off on December 11th and as the name implies, we invite you come spend a day with us - enjoying the art in our gallery, shopping at our artisan and thrifters market or munching on local fare!
East Gourmet celebrated its one year anniversary a few days ago and continues to serve our community with local fare, with local flair.
As we go about the season I want us to all remember to each bring some joy to the world. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Serendipity
Serendipity is the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way and Arlene Singh's relationship with EAST YARD is in all ways serendipitous.
At different times over the past few years, Arlene has made her fashion and designs available at EAST YARD, participated in art programs and hosted solo exhibitions. Serendipity is her second in as many years and is once again at East Studio.
As has become her trademark, Arlene tends to place women at the center of her narrative. Serenity sees the artist offer over 20 pieces of fine art - nine of which make up a sub-set of pieces she calls the Gifted Series.
"The Gifted Series, speaks to our feeling of being burdened by our God-given talents and gifts. These ladies remind us to carry our load with grace and dignity through our lives; her packages are her gifts, her bare feet her humility." - says Arlene.
Hung side by side with these gifted women is a collection of pieces that showcases Arlene's prowess in mixed media and what she likes to call - fluid art. Long known for her fashion and jewelry design, Serenity includes women's wear and jewelry, menswear, Christmas decorations and hair and skincare products, all made by Arlene under her Àsa Market label. Her mission this time around is to offer pieces perfect for gifting or for the collector seeking affordable art.
Serendipity opened at East Studio on December 4th, 2021 and will run until December 17th, 2021.
