The next EdEquity Corner is
Wednesday, January 12th from 7-8:30 pm.

RECAP:  December's EdEquity Corner welcomed Dominique Jefferson, Principal of Hallet Academy.  We were moved by her passion and love for the Hallet community, and her description of the challenges she has been up against in her role.  Thank you, Principal Jefferson for your honesty and authenticity.

COMING UP:  We're back for another year of EdEquity Corner, kicking off on Wednesday, January 12th at 7 PM. We'll have lots to discuss with our very special guest, newly-elected DPS District 4 School Board Director, Michelle Quattlebaum.

Register today.  EdEquity Corner is free and requires no ongoing commitment.
From the PHNEE Archives

As most are aware, it's school choice season.  Check out this February 2020 PHNEE GPHN piece entitled, "Schools, Choice, and Values" which examines several topics on which all school choice participants should reflect: school demographics, opportunity hoarding, and what makes for the "best education."

Donuts, anyone?

In December, PHNEE mobilized to deliver coffee and donuts from the amazing Torpedo Coffee and City Donuts to each of the Greater Park Hill Elementary Schools, to show teachers and staff they are valued and appreciated. These great businesses provided donations and discounts, and combined with community donations, the Great Park Hill Coffee Break was a resounding success!

Thank you to everyone who donated. We'll have more opportunities to support our schools this year.  If you'd like to donate to these efforts click the link below.  Choose PHNEE - One Park Hill Fund from the drop down menu. Your gift, as always is tax deductible.

What We're Reading
Following a two-year pause, states must provide school and student assessment data, according to a recent draft of guidance from the U.S. Department of Education. But, the guidance appears to offer an opportunity for states to provide the public with other measures of achievement and school performance.

From Linda Jacobson of The74Million.org.
Erica Breulin of the Colorado Sun highlights the mental toll on Colorado's educators. "A recent report on the Colorado State of Education published by the Colorado Education Association found that 67% of members surveyed by the teachers union stated they were thinking about leaving the field in the near future. That’s a 27 percentage point increase from the 40% of members who indicated they were considering leaving when surveyed last December."

Melanie Asmar of Chalkbeat reports on DCTA's demand for a weeklong districtwide switch to remote learning to allow students and staff exposed to COVID-19 time to isolate and get tested, and if they’re positive, to recover.  If a districtwide switch to remote learning isn’t possible, DCTA is requesting a host of other safety measures.
