Hello and welcome to our final newsletter of the year, designed to keep you up to date with news and information from PaPaS.

A few words from PaPaS Co-ordinating Editor Neil O'Connell

As we come to the end of another unconventional year it is worth reflecting on the successes that we have enjoyed at PaPaS and the challenges that we face.

2021 has been another productive year of delivering high quality and impactful evidence across our scope... (please continue reading here). 
We are recruiting: Managing Editor (maternity cover)
 
We are now recruiting for Anna Erskine's maternity leave cover next year - if you, or anyone you know, is interested in applying, please see here for more information. 
 
It's a remote (home-working) position, and part-time hours can be considered; the closing date is 14 December.

2020 Equivalent Impact Factor

We are proud to announce that the 2020 equivalent Impact Factor for PaPaS is 11.276

29 publications cited 327 times. This carries on our successful 2019 equivalent Impact Factor which was 11.446.

New editorial board member: Esther Pogatzki-Zahn

We are delighted to welcome Esther Pogatzki-Zahn to the PaPaS editorial board. Esther is a Professor of Anesthesia and Pain Research at the University of Muenster, Germany.

Cochrane News

Impact Factor

The 2020 Impact Factor for Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) is 9.289.

This is an increase on the 2019 Journal Impact Factor, which was 7.890.

Cochrane Convenes recordings available: the world must learn from pandemic lessons to avoid future catastrophes

Hundreds of health leaders and experts met on October 14 to recommend the international community urgently mount stronger evidence-based responses to global health emergencies, and recordings from this event are now available here

The future of evidence synthesis in Cochrane - Future Cochrane website launched
 
Cochrane has launched the Future Cochrane website which outlines how Cochrane might reimagine the way it produces evidence synthesis in the future. The website was launched to coincide with a Community Engagement Workshop Series and you can watch recordings of those now.

Searching news

Preprint sources

An upcoming update to the Cochrane Handbook searching chapter contains some guidance  re: preprints.

Essentially, the guidance is to treat preprints as an additional study reference (i.e., as we do trial registry records, letters, comments) and not to exclude on the basis of document format. So, preprints should be considered eligible for review production.
