WTC Program Preparing the Next Generation of Technicians
The Industrial Machinery Control Program at Withlacoochee Technical College (WTC) trains students to enter the workforce as technicians that manufacturing, distribution, and a host of other industries rely on.  Process controls for the movement of conveyors, fluids, and motors of all types literally keep modern industry moving.  Sumter County high school students and adults can attend WTC in Inverness through long-standing partnership agreements.

SCED Welcomes New Team Member
Kole Kolasa recently joined the Sumter County Economic Development Team as an Economic Development Specialist.  Kole has a graduate degree in Applied Economics from Florida State University and brings experience in market research, econometrics, and economic modeling.      
Lake Sumter State College CDL Training Center Dedication 
A dedication ceremony was recently held on the large, paved training area at the Sumter Campus. Just a couple of months have passed since the first students enrolled and already over 200 graduates have obtained their CDL Licenses.  These graduates can fill high demand local jobs hauling goods or driving specialty vehicles like dump, bucket lift, and cement trucks.

Automation Aids In Closing of Key Skills Gaps
A recent study from Gartner found the top priority for HR leaders in 2022 will be building critical skills and competencies in their organizations. The study found that 47 percent of HR respondents reported not knowing what skills gaps their current employees have, while 40 percent said they can't create skill development solutions fast enough to meet their evolving needs.
