Good Evening Dear Customers

We like to think of ourselves as flavour explorers, wine explorers. Always on the look out for new and interesting bottles to taste, to enjoy, and to stock in our shops.

We've featured many such wines in this newsletter over the years, but around this time of year we do seem to find ourselves gravitating towards the classics. So this time round we've chosen to talk about Rioja, Port, Sherry, and Dessert wines. You can of course find all of our more unusual choices on our website and on the shelves of 105 West Nile Street, but today we're going traditional.

You can shop online and have your order delivered, you can choose to click and collect, or, if you're planning on visiting us in person, we have extended opening hours throughout the festive season.

See you soon.

Cheers

The Good Spirits Co.

RIOJA

Imperial Reserva Rioja 2017 (£28, 75cl/14%)
A full-bodied, savoury style of Rioja with a toasty oak backbone.

Bodegas Urbina Rioja Gran Reserva 2004 (£24.80, 75cl/14%)
An old-fashioned style of Rioja that's been on our shelves since we opened the doors at 105. We love it :)

Viña Real Gran Reserva 2014 (£30, 75cl/13.5%)
A big, chewy Rioja with full on tannins that are just crying out for a chunk of something roasted.

La Rioja Alta Viña Arana Gran Reserva 2012 (£34, 75cl/13.5%)
The first vintage of Viña Arana Gran Reserva and it's a belter - rich, woody, well aged, and very, very food friendly.

Monopole Clasico Blanco Rioja 2018 (£25.30, 75cl/13.5%)
An unusual white Rioja made with the addition of some Manzanilla sherry, this historical style of wine is a speciality of CVNE.

Palacio del Camino Real Blanco Barrica 2020 (£10.50, 75cl/12.5%)
A bright, fresh white RIoja, with enough weight (from the oak) to make it versatile both at table and as an apéritif.

FORTIFIED

Eirados Late Bottled Vintage 2014 (£19.80, 75cl/20%)
A warming glass of port, a wedge of stilton, a few walnuts - it's all you need in life really.

Eirados 10 Year Old Tawny (£26, 75cl/19.5%)
Lighter than its LBV sibling, and a beautiful tawny red colour, this is the perfect partner to pecan pie.

Fonseca Vintage 1985 (£93.50, 75cl/20.5%)
One of the top wines of a universally declared vintage, Fonseca '85 is drinking very well now but will continue to mature for decades yet.

Ximenez-Spinola PX Muy Viejo Solera 1918 (£59, 75cl/15%)
From a Pedro Ximinez solera laid down in 1918, this sweet sticky dessert wine has an average age of fifteen years. To be drizzled over ice cream and enjoyed in contemplative silence.

Callejuela 'Origen' Amontillado (£30, 75cl/18%)
A tangy, bone dry sherry, the perfect thing to wake up your taste buds before dinner.

SWEETIES

Tommasi 'Fiorato' Recioto della Valpolicella 2017 (£23.30, 37.5cl/13%)
An intense red sweetie from the Veneto, in North East Italy. Goes very well with chocolate, or fruit desserts.

Chateau Lamourette Sauternes 2010 (£31.80, 75cl/13%)
A rich dessert wine from Bordeaux which would pair nicely with blue cheeses such as Roquefort, or perhaps an apricot tart (or both!)

Campbells Rutherglen Muscat NV (£16.20, 37.5cl/17.5%)
We've no idea why, but this Australian Muscat has always sold really well in Glasgow. Nutty, raisined, and sticky - you'll just need a wee glass.
