We did it!

Brandeis named winner of the 2021 AASHE Sustainability Achievement Award

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) announced today that Brandeis won the 2021 AASHE Campus Sustainability Achievement Award!

Brandeis is recognized for our achievement in sustainable dining. Over the past year, we have made changes resulting in a lot of progress: a lower carbon “foodprint”, a new food waste reduction process, fewer single-use disposable items, more New England-sourced foods, and more.

The award recognizes outstanding progress in higher education sustainability. The 54 finalists came from more than 360+ submissions.

Dig into the details

Showcasing our efforts:

Images from top left: a featured menu item with local honey, one of the many New England-sourced items that appear more regularly on our menus; a display of Future 50 foods, which are now used frequently in Brandeis’ menus; Nutritionist Nolan Reese demonstrates our new LeanPath food waste reduction system to a group of new students.

What else we’re up to

The Brandeis Sustainability Committee is busy evaluating our recent transportation survey, reviewing Brandeis’ electronics purchases for Energy STAR and EPEAT labels, evaluating dining sustainability metrics, reviewing Brandeis’ first integrated pest management plan, planning for our Year on Climate Action, and teeing up our campus carbon mitigation study.

The committee is always accepting feedback through its online form.
