RHILC Christmas Walk Sun 19th from 11:00-13:00

Dear members, we would love to invite you for a
Group Christmas walk on Sunday December 19th from 11am.

We will meet at the entrance to the Rivermead nature reserve and walk along the newly cleared path into Sandford and onto Hayford Meadows - a secret passageway through dense meadowy forest so please bring suitable footwear. 

Please bring a hot drink in a flask and some lunch, if you need. I will provide some German Lebkuchen to share.  Sabine

Have you seen our new trees in Rose Hill? 

"A massive THANK YOU to those who braved the weather for the great success today. There were 20 of us and it was good to see some new faces. 

We replanted trees where they had died and we planted and mulched: A 'Wildlife & Shrubs Pack' from the Friends of the Earth: 10 x Hawthorn, 10 x Grey Willow, 10 x Hazels, 10 x Dog Rose, and 10 x Dogwood and 14 hazels from Eleanor and Chris' garden, along the Abberbury Avenue hedge. There was no cost because the mulch was kindly donated by Julian Cooper of ODS/OCC, the whips by Friends of the Earth and the hazels by Eleanor and Chris. 

We weeded and mulched some of the trees we planted before; we can weed and mulch the rest in Spring so don't worry if you could not make today. Luckily, the weather improved.

Remembering Jan Seed

LEAF (Local Environmental Action Florence park) and their many friends planted trees in Florence Park to remember Jan last Friday 3rd December and created a beautiful new avenue!

Thanks to fantastic support of the fundraising efforts by Communities for Zero Carbon Oxford, six elms have been purchased and were planted in memory of Jan Seed in Florence Park.

If you are in the Park do remember Jan who gave so much of her time and energy campaigning and supporting Environmental issues.

December Repair Cafe!  

Dear Friends,  We have run 3 Repair cafes this year, with reduced numbers, but good rates of mending success and 116 Kg of goods not gone to landfill. So thank you all for your support and hard work and we look forward to a busier 2022.
The upcoming cafes in Rose Hill are on February 5th, April 2nd , June 4th and August 6th.

Last chance to complete
: The Quickways survey before 10 December!

For the past four years, RHILC has campaigned for continuous cycle lanes from town to Rose Hill and Iffley. Here's a photo of us demonstrating before we presented our petition of 1,930 signatures to the Council in March 2018!

At present, cars are allowed to park on top of the cycle lane on the Iffley Road - our main route home from town. This is really dangerous for cyclists as they have to swing out in front of traffic to pass the cars. So some of our older members simply don't cycle. If we use the bus, we get stuck in endless queues of cars. The buses would move faster if there were clearways at bus stops. 

If you are a cyclist, would-be cyclist or a bus-user, PLEASE complete the County Council survey before 10 December, ticking the boxes for: 1) mandatory cycle lanes, 2) waiting/parking restrictions  3) bus stop clearways 4) 20 mph speed limit - for the Iffley Road and other key Oxford roads. It only takes 5-10 minutes to complete. Here's the link:

15 minute neighbourhoods (15MN) 

It is a survey asking Oxfordshire residents what are the most important amenities for them to be able to walk to from their homes – the concept of 15 minute neighbourhoods (15MN). A new version of the traditional village, strongly linked to active travel and avoiding getting into a car or on a bus.
