Big Month of Projects, Medical Missions & Preparation!

Executive Summary
- Active WASH Projects: Our team constructed 38 cement floors and 18 bathrooms across Santiago and Constanza!
- Health Initiatives: We worked with our first medical mission in over 2 years! 350+ residents across 4 different communities in Tireo-Constanza received amazing hands-on care. Additionally, our health promoters collected vital information for 192 at-risk patients for hypertension and diabetes.

Active Projects Across the Island

Puente's WASH team started the month in Santiago, where we constructed 35 cement floors in Nuevo Almanecer. Our team implemented the first 18 with the community and then left the project in the hands of local Training Manager, Naileny Brito, and local community leaders. It has been amazing to watch everyone step up and finish the remaining 17 cement floors! Now, every house in the community has a cement floor.
In Constanza, our team is finishing up a bathrooms project in La Sabina. We are working directly with the neighborhood association and, together, we have implemented a total of 18 bathrooms. This project in La Sabina directly impacts 70 amazing residents and provides every resident in this sector with proper sanitation facilities.
Shoutout to Kameron Smith and Craig Plotts for coming down and lending a hand throughout these builds! Kam and Craig are volunteering their time to help residents in the community that cannot physically complete the project nor afford it due to current economic conditions.

Ongoing Health Initiatives in Constanza & Tireo

It was amazing have Constanza Medical Mission (CMM) back in country! The super-star team of American and Dominican medical personnel / volunteers, and the Puente team focused on providing all participants with hands-on health care services (both physical and mental health). Our colleague and friend, Doctor Cairo, was there to write prescriptions and refer all residents with chronic conditions to local doctors for continued treatment and follow-up care.
Our team used Puente Collect to transcribe demographic, environmental health and medical information for all 357 residents across 4 communities. It's our hope to use this data with CMM to gather key insights on their interventions, guide future missions (medications, specialists, locations, etc.), and follow up with special cases.
Additionally, our team of health promoters in Constanza completed their monthly home visits for 192 patients across Barrio Las Flores. Promoters visit at-risk patients, that were identified during Health Outreach Foundation medical missions, to collect blood pressure and blood sugar levels, as well as ensure action plans are being followed.

Comedy for Communities Fundraiser

We have a special Puente fundraiser coming up: Comedy for Communities! Join us in Washington DC on December 9th for a night of laughs and brews at The Saloon (a fellow nonprofit). Puente $50k December Fundraiser

Our annual December Fundraiser kicked off this past week with Giving Tuesday. We are extremely proud to announce that we are already 36% of the way to our $50,000 goal.
