Continuing Education Powers Career Growth
The City College of New York is transforming its Continuing and Professional Studies programs by expanding existing courses and implementing new programs and partnerships. For individuals seeking credentials in high-growth career tracks, tech offerings include the Google IT Support Professional Certificate and the Cisco Networking Academy's CyberOps Associate certification. Environmental engineering non-degree courses and other workforce development initiatives are also designed to support New Yorkers' skill-building and career growth.

Research: Making Discoveries, Creating Change
Eminent Scientist Receives Franklin Medal
Sheldon Weinbaum, Professor Emeritus at CCNY's Grove School of Engineering, is the recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Biomedical Engineering. Among the prestigious awards given by The Franklin Institute, this honor recognizes Weinbaum's "foundational contributions to our understanding of heat flow among arteries, veins and capillaries in the body, increasing our knowledge of cardiovascular disease and leading to life-saving technologies."

Assessing Substance Use Disorder Treatments
Amid a national opioid overdose crisis that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates cost nearly 50,000 lives in 2019, and noting the deadly impacts of fentanyl in the cocaine supply, CCNY and partners are embarking on a study to evaluate the effectiveness of psychosocial treatments for Black people who use cocaine. Hailed as innovative, the two-year project is supported by the Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Lesia M. Ruglass, a co-leader of the study, is joined by Adriana Espinosa; both are professors of Psychology at CCNY's Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership.

City College's contingent numbered among thousands of participants, representing more than 350 U.S. colleges, in last month's virtual event.

I Am CCNY: Ana Radonjic, Class of 2022
Major: Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structures. I always had an affinity for fine arts and mathematics—a strange mix. I originally aspired to get my degree in Architecture, but as I advanced in my high school career, I realized that I cared more about the "bones" of the structure than how the outside looked. After taking a Physics course, I decided to study Civil Engineering instead of Architecture. I still get to apply my artistic skill and creativity in the work I do, while also working as a problem-solver.
CCNY Organizations: I have been involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter at CCNY for the past two and a half years. I started off as Vice President and worked my way up to President last year. Being part of a student chapter for such a successful organization was life-changing. ASCE helped me prepare for my career, make lifelong connections and gain confidence outside of classes. I have also been a member of the Concrete Canoe Club, Civil Engineering Student Council and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Taking part in student clubs not only helped me make friends, it also helped me become a more well-rounded student and professional. It taught me a lot about teamwork, trusting your peers and taking time to relax.

Giving and Growth
Holiday Meals Are on Their Way
Thanks to the generous support of community partners, alumni and friends, Benny's Food Pantry at CCNY and Red Rabbit of Harlem are combating food insecurity with holiday food deliveries to residents of West Harlem and to CCNY students. For Thanksgiving, more than 1,100 meals were delivered to the PSS Manhattanville Center, Wilson Major Morris Community Center, Greater File Chapel Baptist Church and the Towers at CCNY residence hall (pictured), as well as the Living Redemption Youth Opportunity Hub and the CCNY Office of Facilities Management in gratitude for the department's hard work and presence on campus throughout the pandemic. Additional meal deliveries are planned for the late December holidays.
The Foundation for City College is grateful for the opportunity to serve the community and wishes all Benny's Food Pantry friends and neighbors a happy holiday season. In particular, the Foundation wishes to thank The Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation, the New York City Emergency Food Assistance Program and alumni and friends around the world for their generosity.
