Community Care: Living with COVID-19

A couple of weeks ago Sector Support hosted the second Northern Sydney Regional Forum for 2021. We were fortunate to hear from Dr Fiona Robinson, Head, Specialty of General Practice, Sydney Medical School, Faculty of Medicine and Health. Dr Robinson presented clear and factual information about the current management of COVID-19 patients, and explained how patients will be treated in the future. COVID-19 Update
Booster doses for COVID-19 vaccines are recommended for everyone 18 years and over who have had both doses of their primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months ago. More details are available here.
Additionally, you can access this new COVID-19 Restriction Checker to find out the restrictions that apply in particular states/territory based on the sector of activity. Finally, remember there is a range of information and resources on the Department’s Advice for the aged care sector during COVID-19 Portal
CHSP - Negotiations, transition support and remote loadings
A Fact Sheet was released on 30 November 2021 by the Department of Health to discuss details on negotiations, transition support and remote loadings for the 2022-2023 CHSP extension. This document needs to be read in conjunction with the Payment in Arrears and Unit Pricing – October update. Additionally, you can also watch the recording of the CHSP extension webinar that was held on 17 November 2021.
Grant Opportunity: CHSP 2022-23 extension

The objectives of this grant opportunity are to extend the grant funding arrangements of current CHSP service providers through to 30 June 2023; provide continued support to over 825,000 CHSP clients currently receiving services; and vary the grant agreements of eligible CHSP providers. ACSA and LASA hosted a webinar that discussed the impacts of changes to the SCHADS Award on Home Care and CHSP providers on 23 November 2021. The Powerpoint slides can be downloaded here, and you can watch the recording via this link.
New National Aged Care Advisory Council established
The Australian Government has appointed 17 prominent Australians to the new National Aged Care Advisory Council, which was a key recommendation from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety . These members will provide advice relating to the implementation of the reforms, ensuring it reflects the needs and expectations of senior Australians, their families and carers. Report on the Operation of the Aged Care Act 1997
This report provides an overview of Australia’s aged care system and details its operation over the 2020-2021 financial year. Key facts include:
  • Total expenditure in aged care of $23.6bn.
  • More than 1,430 organisations were funded to deliver CHSP services.
  • Almost two thirds of aged care consumers accessed basic support at home.

Healthy and Active for Life Online
Term 1 starts on 24 January 2022
Healthy and Active Online is a 10 week free program for independent older adults 60+ years and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 45+ years, who currently do not participate in physical activity programs. The program is delivered on-line via the NSW Active and Healthy website.
