A Message from the president

We are already starting the second month of 2022. Cold mornings and afternoons that feel like Spring. If you can, get outside to enjoy the sunshine.

We recently went to the Hatchet House for Soroptimist Connect. A few members of SI Chico were able to join us. I think everyone had a lot of fun. Plus, there were quite a few bullseyes!

Now on to February. At the end of the month, we are having a New Member Mixer. It is important for current members to be there too. We can share our Soroptimist experiences with perspective members. If you have a friend that would like to join us, please contact Babette.

We will find out soon if the Sierra Nevada Region Conference will go as planned, in person or if it will be via Zoom. If you are interested in attending the Conference in Reno and have questions, please contact me or another “seasoned” member.

Thank you for volunteering,

Linda

Did you get a chance to snap a picture, wearing blue January 11th? 💙💙
#WearBlueDay is to raise awareness about Human Trafficking.

You can help #EndTrafficking by:
🛑 Learn the indicators of the crime
🛑 Raise awareness within your community
🛑 Report suspected trafficking

Here’s how to help: https://bit.ly/3mtHjpy

S/I Bidwell Rancho designed and was able to put up #StopHumanTrafficking posters in 34 B-Line Transit busses in and around Chico, helping to raise awareness.
We also have a Spanish and Hmong version available.

Soroptimist Connect

In January, S/I Bidwell Rancho went to "The Hatchet House"! We were joined by some of the Members of S/I Chico. What a fun evening! A few of us hit the Bullseye several times.

Dream it, Be it

Our Dream it, Be it Conference is scheduled for April 9th, 2022.
S/I Chico and S/I Bidwell's Planning Committees are in full swing, putting everything together.
This is going to be a bigger "Dream it, Be it" conference than the previous years. We have invited all Chico, Paradise and Oroville High Schools, as well as the Boys and Girls Club and Foster Care agencies.

We will need your help during this conference!
Attached is a sign up sheet . Please look it over and sign up for one or more jobs to help us make this day a great success.

Dash of SOLT.......

What does it mean to be "empowered"?

Women are economically empowered when they have control over their own finances and well-being, and when they have a voice in the financial decisions to shape their lives and the lives of their families. When women and girls are empowered, they have a sense of autonomy, self-confidence, and the power to control their private and public lives. We focus on access to education because we believe it’s the most effective way toward empowerment.

  • When women learn, families live healthier.
  • When girls go to school they are more likely to get paying jobs and their financial contributions to their families—and their nations—increase.
  • When girls have educated moms, they are more likely to be enrolled in school and to reach higher levels of education.
  • When women are educated, their countries are more likely to have greater economic growth

Happy Birthday!

02/05 Cathy Gurney
02/14 Valerie Miller
02/22 Dina Volenski
