This "Beauty and the Beast" non-musical play is a great way to enjoy this famous fairy tale.  The story is just as you remember it.  Set in the French countryside, a handsome prince lives in a beautiful castle. Play Description

This stage adaptation of the classic book deals with real people, seen through the eyes of young Ponyboy, a Greaser on the wrong side of life, caught up in territorial battles between the have-it-made rich kids—the Socs—and his tough, underprivileged "greaser" family and friends.

Important Covid Information for all Cast Members

REQUIRED FOR ADMITTANCE

 • PROOF OF COVID VACCINATION. Every member of a Spring 2022 PYT cast must have received their first COVID vaccination before they attend any in-person rehearsal and receive their second vaccination no later than March 1, 2022.

 • FACE MASK (must be worn in facility)

COVID Precautions During Rehearsals

 • Proof of Vaccination required.

 • Face Mask worn at all times by all rehearsal participants.

 • Only cast members and crew admitted during rehearsals.

 • PYT crew is fully vaccinated.

 • All additional recommended COVID safety measures are in effect in facility, including:  daily cleaning, ventilation, outside sign in/out, etc.

 • Fresh Air Ventilation in theater increases audience safety but means DRESS WARMLY!

We'll be as careful as possible throughout rehearsals and in the myriad activities and variables surrounding rehearsals and performances. If COVID situation improves dramatically in Spring, some COVID requirements may be eased per governmental recommendations.

What if COVID Worsens?

In 2020 and 2021 PYT learned how to produce award-winning theater with increased ventilation, social distancing, masks, going outside and, if need be, online. When in the theater every cast and staff member is required to social distance and wear a mask 100% of the time. Increased ventilation has been proven to mitigate indoor COVID risk. So we keep doors and windows at the ends of our building ajar with a fan blowing air out our middle room. This can make it chilly inside in winter and hot in summer, but we keep the HVAC system going full blast with special virus-quality air filters changed monthly.

If being indoors is deemed too dangerous this season, we can rehearse outdoors as much as possible, and if need be due to cold and dark conditions, we can rehearse online until the situation improves or it's show time. PYT shows always go on one way or another. In October 2020 we performed the musical "Heal 2020" drive-in movie style. In Spring and Summer 2021 we put on over 35 performances at major amphitheaters in the region, including Southern Village Green and Forest Theater on UNC Chapel Hill campus.

If worse comes to worst, how does virtual theater work?

When need be, virtual casts will rehearse together with their Director on Zoom. If COVID gets too nasty at show time, PYT will provide props and costumes and train up the cast to perform their play on ZOOM. This works better for some plays than others, but it's nice to know that in a pinch virtual rehearsals and performances are doable. Videos of online performances stay on our YouTube channel for family, friends and the public to watch after the performance.

PYT's Technical Director and Co-founder, Craig Witter, raises the level of all our virtual theater video programs. Mr. Craig is a national award winning videographer with decades of professional video production skills, experience and equipment.
