FAIRVIEW COLUMNS

OUR WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
In 2021 we saw many of you joyfully join the choir and offer your musical gifts during worship services. I've included the video above of the Lessons and Carols service so you can see that. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Fairview Family - I've been doing some reflecting on the year that was. No doubt you'll read end of the year articles over the next few days, and perhaps writers will include their favorite moments from 2021. I wanted to offer the same from Fairview. For we need to be reminded that the Lord is at work; He is building His church, and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it. So, without further ado, here are some of my favorite moments throughout 2021. I'm certain I'll miss someone's favorite, so let me hear from you. What stands out to you from the life of our church over the last 12 months?

  • Deacon, Ruling Elder, and Teaching Elder Ordinations and/ or Installations (1.17, 1.24, 5.30, 9.5): Stutts Armstrong, Cephas DiLella, Wesley McCarter, James Wickliffe, Jim McClimon, Tom Sevcik, Jimmy Sprouse, Frank Wickliffe, Kenny Maple, Tom Miller
  • New Members and Baptisms! I won't list them all here, but the Lord has really added to our number!
  • New Volunteers in the Nursery. Many of you served for the first time this year! Thank you!
  • Outreach: Began partnering with Fountain Inn Kid Enrichment (3.22)
  • Kids: Vacation Bible School (6.8-11)
  • Elder Emeritus: Henry Peden, Joe Peden, Tony Rozakas
  • Inreach: Shepherding Plan Implemented (8.29)
  • Youth: Barefoot Acres Outing (10.16)
  • Singing: One Small Child Duet by Marilee Vana and Lydia Martzin (12.5)
  • Worship: Service of Lessons and Carols and Jonathan's Sermon from Isaiah 9:6-7 (12.19)
Having taken a break from the newsletter last week, I was unable to extend in this format our Christian sympathy and condolences to the family of Richard "Dick" Peden who passed away on Dec. 20th. Thank you to all who came out to support the family on Monday. Please continue to lift up the family in your prayers. Dick has meant so much to Fairview, and he will be missed. No doubt, others of you are remembering your loved ones as the year has drawn to a close. Please know how much your church cares for you, and even more how your God cares for you. He has proven his care, his love for us "in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Looking forward to worshiping with you. Grace be with you.
Kenny

Book of the Month | Be Thou My Vision: A Liturgy for Daily Worship, by Jonathan Gibson
Each month I'll use this space to suggest a book to you. January's book is hot off the printing press, and I'm excited to use it. Why do I say use it instead of read it? It's a book for daily worship, incorporating the elements of our corporate worship in leading you through your devotional times with the Lord. It's worth getting a copy. What are you reading these days? Let me know!
