The Omicron variant has shown that the pandemic will continue to be with us in 2022. Currently, our vaccination rates are 92% for ages 12+; 86.6% for ages 5+, and more than 680,000 booster shots have been provided (more than 52% ages 16+). Even though our community has done an outstanding job of getting vaccinated, the Omicron variant is highly transmissible. Thankfully the vaccines are keeping hospitalizations low and symptoms mild. Long-COVID continues to be a real concern regardless of one’s severity of COVID-19. We want to take the best precautions we can so that we may stay healthy. We have enjoyed several wonderful events with our community recently, including celebrating the holidays with neighbors across District 3. I joined U.S. Representative Ro Khanna and Supervisor Chavez to celebrate our Vietnamese American community. Supervisor Chavez and I also welcomed Loc Vu & Nam Pham from the IRCC and Dr. Phan Quang Dan for the book signing of 'The Republic of Vietnam’s Environment & People' in Board Chambers.

The D3 Team joined our County’s Mobile Vax Clinic at Holiday Magic on Main Street in Milpitas, and I got the chance to speak with neighbors about the importance of getting booster shots.

The Interfaith Memorial Service for the Unhoused was held at the County Government Plaza in San José on December 21. It was an incredibly moving service and a reminder of the importance of our work.

In early December, I attended the California State Association of Counties, CSAC, Annual Meeting. The meeting was full of innovative ideas, powerful purpose and electric energy. I made a lot of great connections with leaders from across California, and it was an honor to represent Santa Clara County along with Supervisor Ellenberg.

Recently, we celebrated International Human Rights Day & International Migrants Day. These are two days that are a strong reminder of how we are connected worldwide and that there are individuals who fled their home for a better life or to save their loved ones right here in Santa Clara County. Our hearts and thoughts are with every family across the world this holiday season.
At the service to memorialize the 250 unhoused neighbors we have lost, I saw a community dedicated to help one another and care for each other. We are facing real challenges in Santa Clara County, but I want us to feel hopeful that in 2022 we have better days ahead. We’re going to lift up and save lives across Santa Clara County in 2022.
Thank you for being a part of this year with us. We’ll be doing a reflection on 2021 in our next newsletter as the work for 2021 is still not done. Click HERE for a list of referrals that I presented individually or jointly during 2021. Our next Board of Supervisors meeting will be January 11, 2022. Please contact us anytime if you need any help.
We hope you and your loved ones enjoy the holiday season and cheer as we say goodbye to 2021, and a Happy New Year!
Warmest regards,
