WLS IT Solutions Lucsline 559 - 21st December 2021

Welcome to a short bonus edition of Lucsline. We weren't going to do one this week, but there were a couple of bits of very good news over the weekend that we wanted to share with members to lift spirits, in what is fast becoming a potentially more gloomy Christmas than any of us had hoped with the return of Covid issues.

Let's start with last Saturday and one of the great results this club has achieved, as our 1st XV defeated Stourbridge 24-19. The manner of the win was so gutsy from the players and the coaches involved, taking down clearly one of the best sides in this division, with huge levels of bravery and conviction in defence, and really accurate execution of attacking opportunities with ball in hand. The game had everything you'd want in a Christmas derby, played out in front of the most vociferous Mortimer Park atmosphere you could ask for. The effect of that support is an intangible, but when Black and White supporters come down and make that much noise, it really does do special things to the lads pulling on our shirt, and each of them grow into superior versions of themselves. I honestly don't think that result would have been possible without the 16th man so a huge shout out to your efforts all who attended.

Before the game we mentioned the players we had out, and that was not a setup to get excuses in before playing one of the top sides, it was just how it was. On top of those 20 warriors who played for us Saturday, in the New Year at varying times we have the following group of players to return; Ben Murphy, Ben Link, Harry Whiteman, Aiden Cheshire, Mat Hackley, Owen Davies, Louis Silver, Josh Nott, Will Burton, Rob Aikman, James Wheeler, Josh Watkins, Ben Owen and Charlie Meredith. Given the depth of players we were without, it does make that win all the more remarkable and a massive congratulations to Joe White and his group of players and Ryan and his team of coaches - we couldn't have asked for a better Christmas present.

Sunday and we had more fantastic news as no fewer than ten of our colts were selected to play for the North Midlands U18s, as they beat Warwickshire 34-0. Not only a decent result, but some effort from our side to have that many involved, as well as two more of our own in Will Pugh and Jack Condliffe playing for Worcester Warriors U18s on the Saturday night beforehand against Sale. The future is not looking in bad hands!

Finally our wonderful Charity Group deserve a massive thank you for their work in fundraising for the Christmas Raffle - £2,158 raised for more excellent causes, and not only that, one of their own then came down on the Sunday to be our Father Christmas - pictured below with his little helpers! Thank you Tim!

So this one really is the last one for 2021 - it has ended on a huge high, in many ways. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and can't wait to see you at Lucs again on Boxing Day or in the New Year.
