Principal's Reflection

Who will our children follow?

The Christmas story we share with our children is about following God’s messengers and traveling towards Christ. Mary and Joseph both said, “Yes” to the angel’s request and brought Jesus into the world. The shepherds followed the angels’ proclamation and went to Bethlehem to meet Jesus. Last, the three kings followed a star to find our newborn king. Each of these people listened and followed God’s messengers which led them to meet and worship Jesus.

Parents and teachers at St. John the Baptist School are called to be God’s modern-day messengers to our children. It’s not an easy task, the world is far louder today than it was 2000 years ago when Jesus was born. Because of this, we must make sharing the message of Jesus a priority. Prayer is a daily practice at St. John the Baptist School, as I know it is in many of your homes. I ask that each of us make an extra effort to be true messengers of Our Lord this season. We want our children to know and worship Jesus in this world so they can one day join Him in heaven.

Bishop David Ricken summarizes it well: “If we don’t share our faith with our children, what will the world share with them instead? If we don’t pray for them, with them and teach them how to pray, where will they turn in difficulty and who will they turn to?”

I can’t think of a better gift to share with our children this Christmas than a love of and for Christ.

Information and Updates

Student Pick-Up Thursday, 12/23

The Parish is hosting a community blood drive event tomorrow from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. This means our parking lot will be in use by many visiting community members who may not be aware of our pick-up expectations and traffic flow patterns. Please be patient with those guests and with each other.

Emergencies and Cancellations

If school needs to be canceled or delayed due to weather or another emergency, communications are handled the following way:If HSSD delays or cancels schools, so will SJB.
  • If Pulaski delays or cancels school, families living in that attendance area will be excused accordingly.
  • In addition to the communication that HSSD shares, SJB will send out a mass email and a text message via our school messaging system. The best way to ensure you receive these messages is to keep your contact information accurate and up to date in PowerSchool.
  • If school is canceled or dismissed early due to weather, all after-school programs, including extended care, will be canceled.
  • If school has a delayed start, morning extended care and morning preschool are canceled.

Maintenance Update

Some old flooring containing asbestos has reached end of life. Over Christmas break, the tile in the middle school science room will be removed by a professional asbestos removal company. All required abatement and cleaning will be part of this process. Concrete will remain through the end of the school year and new tile will be installed this summer.

3rd and 4th Grade Basketball

SJB holds a developmental basketball league with other GRACE schools that will begin the week of January 10th. The focus is to help kids learn the game of basketball and to develop skills to help them play in future grades. There will be a cost of $15 to sign up.

Volunteer Opportunities

Grandparent Days

We are in need of 5 more volunteers on either Feb. 2nd or 3rd. Volunteers will help pour and serve drinks and clear trash away from the tables during the social, after Mass, from about 9:15-10:30ish on each day.

If you are available to assist, please indicate so by signing up here. Any questions? Please contact Mrs. Kaas.

Middle School Lock-In

Middle School Parents! We are in need of a few helpers for our Middle School Lock-In, Friday, January 28th to Saturday, January 29th. We hope to have enough spots for at least 80 students this year and will need a few male and female chaperones to help make that happen. As a chaperone, you can stay for the whole event, or you can take one of the 4 shifts available.

Please email or call Rob Sobieck at rsobieck@sjbh.org or 920-434-2145 Ext. 203 if you would be willing to help out with this or to inquire about details and shifts! Thank you!
