Dear Supporters,
We dedicated our journalism careers to covering the town where we live, work and raise our children. The decline of local news disturbed and angered us, especially the disappearance of investigative reporting.
We founded SpotlightDC: Capital City Fund for Investigative Journalism with a simple mission: raise funds and award them to reporters working on worthy watchdog projects to seek the truth, keep governments honest and ensure taxpayer funds are well-spent.

A year after our launch, spotlightdc.org is helping to fill the void in deeply-reported stories -- and making a difference. We have funded more than a dozen projects: investigating fraud in DC’s eviction system; sweetheart deals to major corporate trash haulers; unjust detainment of prisoners during the pandemic; the environmental injustice of heat islands; and more. Your contributions will allow us to fund investigations of failures in DC’s child welfare system, affordable housing, public schools, prison system and more.
We are still a young nonprofit that punches way above its weight. Please check out spotlightdc.org and contribute! A little goes a long way toward keeping watchdog journalism alive in the DC region.
Doubled by NewsMatch, your contributions will go directly to reporters and editors.
With appreciation and gratitude.
