Second Edition of the Candidate Course in Costa Rica Comes to an End

The Course for Women Electoral Candidates "Costa Rican Feminist League", an initiative of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) and the OAS School of Governance, with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID) and the Government of Italy, was held on December 2nd. This edition was held in conjunction with the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of Costa Rica. After a successful call at the national level, the course was attended by approximately 100 participants, including women political leaders and candidates in the context of the legislative elections of Costa Rica in February 2022.
Women's Empowerment and the Promotion of Gender Equality through Foreign Policy


 
On December 6th, the CIM organized a high-level roundtable aimed at decision-makers, public policy specialists and civil society organizations, with the objective of discussing how to enhance the presence of women in diplomacy and multilateralism in order to promote the gender agenda in the region, without neglecting the particularities of our hemisphere.  The event was attended by Alejandra Mora Mora, Executive Secretary of the CIM, Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the OAS.

Women's Ministers Agree on CIM's Path towards a New Regional Agenda
 

 
The CIM Delegates - Ministers of Women and high-level gender authorities - from 9 countries of the continent met to celebrate the fourth session of the CIM Steering Committee 2019-2022. At the meeting, the Delegates initiated the strategic work path that will guide the efforts of the CIM during the years 2022-2026, deepening issues on women's economic rights, political rights, gender mainstreaming and the articulation with the feminist and broad women's movement in the region.  In addition, the path towards a Model Law on Caregiving was approved.

FLACSO Chile Seminar: "Towards a New Sexual Contract from the Autonomy of Women"

On December 13th, the Executive Secretary of the CIM, Alejandra Mora Mora, participated in the virtual seminar "Towards a Sexual Contract in the Constitutional Convention." Organized by Flacso Chile, the seminar aimed to expose the importance of ensuring gender equality in what will be the new Constitution of Chile; emphasizing human rights and equal representation between men and women.

Launching of #DecalogueCIM for a Human Rights-Based and Feminist State



The CIM officially launched the "Decalogue for a Human Rights-based and Feminist State", prepared together with renowned feminists and gender experts in the region. The virtual event provided an in-depth look at the collaborative experience involved in the construction of this document, in addition to presenting the main themes, the added value and innovative elements of the document.

CIM Pathway to a Model Law on Caregiving


On the road towards the drafting of a Model Law on Caregiving, the CIM, with the support of the European Union (EU), through the Gender Equality area of the EUROsociAL+ program, held three dialogues on December 13th, 14th and 15th with representatives of international organizations, civil society and parliamentarians. During the meetings, suggestions and inputs were received, and there was a time of reflection on experiences that promote the economic empowerment of women at the national level.

Registration Open for the Colombia 2022 Candidates Course

 


The CIM and the OAS School of Governance together with the National Electoral Council of Colombia (CNE), the OAS Mission to Support the Peace Process in Colombia (MAPP/OAS), with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Government of Italy, open the call for the new edition entitled "Josefina Valencia", aimed at candidates for the legislative elections to be held in 2022 in Colombia. The course will be held virtually from January 20th to February 2nd.

Call for Women's Organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean



The Follow-up Mechanism for the Convention of Belém do Pará (MESECVI) has issued a call to women's organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean to register in the OAS Registry in order to participate in the MESECVI process during the Fourth Multilateral Evaluation Round and to assist with the dissemination of the reports. They will also participate in the monitoring and follow-up of compliance with the recommendations of the Committee of Experts.

The Inter-American Award for Best Practices in Women's Leadership is Now Open for Applications.



The Inter-American Award for Best Practices is an inter-institutional initiative that seeks to recognize, highlight and amplify both public policies and private sector and civil society initiatives that promote an increase in the number of women in leadership positions and seek to strengthen their empowerment and capacity to influence decision-making.
Call open until April 2022.
