Thank you to Eric Maurer for his year of service on the DeKalb Ethics Board.  We wish you well in your new endeavors!  Congratulations to Candace Walker on her appointment by the House Delegation as a voting member of the DeKalb Ethics Board.  Congratulations also to Bill Clark, who was appointed by the Clerk of the Court, Debra DeBerry, as a new alternate to the Ethics Board.  We appreciate the Ethics board members service to DeKalb County!

In the Community

On December 13, the Atlanta Delegation met with Atlanta Mayor Elect Andre Dickens.  I believe our Capitol City will be in good hands under his leadership.  Our legislative priorities are to keep Atlanta United  - to prevent the Buckhead secession from moving forward - and keep the airport under Atlanta's control.
Thank you to our DeKalb Commissioner Larry Johnson, who is serving as President of the National Association of Counties.  I was pleased that the Large Urban Counties Conference was held in Decatur this year, and I was able to attend a portion of the conference, to learn about how Georgia can better address our infant and maternal mortality.
On December 14 I attended the South Fork Conservancy Confluence Bridge Ribbon Cutting ceremony.   Planning for this bridge - and the access to it - took six years and is the result of the partnership and collaboration of many organizations, including Georgia Department of Transportation, City of Atlanta, Park Pride.  This bridge across the confluence of the North Fork and the South Fork of Peachtree Creek will help connect countless trails across DeKalb and Atlanta!  As Stacey Key of GDOT said "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.  Mobility and pedestrian focused projects are critically important for communities to grow and thrive."
Thank you to our children's teachers, for their dedication to their profession and students during this pandemic.  On December 4th, at our church's Alternative Gift Market, I ran into Sam Brown, an outstanding Druid Hills High School Language Arts teacher who taught all three of my children.  It was so good to catch us with him, and hard to hear hear how stressful school life continues to be for many of our teachers and students during this pandemic.  I hope and pray this winter break provides all our school staff and students rest and rejuvenation.
Thank you to Lisa Morgan, President of the Georgia Association of Educators,  for recognizing my commitment for high quality public education for all of Georgia's children.  I was humbled and honored to receive GAE's legislative "Honor Roll" award for speaking out against the defunding of public schools.  We met on December 20th and shared our education legislative priorities for the 2022 session.  More on that later!
Congratulations to the DeKalb NAACP on their 65th Freedom Fund Awards and Scholarship Gala on December 11th!  David put on a black tie for the first time in over a decade - doesn't he look handsome?
My Christmas Gift to You
For those of you who share the Christian faith with me, I invite you to take a moment and listen to this powerful and beautiful rendition of “Silent Night” that brought me to tears at our worship service last Sunday.  Go to minute 59 of the video. This is my Christmas gift to you.
I loved baking Christmas cookies with my great-nephews earlier in December.  I hope you have been able to enjoy high quality time with your family and friends this month, and that Omicron doesn't affect your family's plans for the holidays.    And if it does, that you and your loved ones are resilient and can persevere!

I hope and pray you stay safe and healthy this holiday. Please let me know if I can be of service to you.
If you haven't yet gotten your booster shot - Go Do It!
I look forward to connecting with you in the New Year!
Blessings to you and your family and friends,
Representative Becky Evans
