SLH would like to wish all our supporters a Happy Christmas and a peaceful year in 2022.

Thanks to you all for your support, help, ideas and inspiration through this year, whether you have been with us a while or have joined recently.

From the SLH team.

There are just a few things we want to put on your radar for the next few weeks.

MANCHESTER LIBRARY OF THINGS IS COMING SOON!

We came across this interesting idea recently:  instead of buying things people can borrow them from a central point. We probably all need less "stuff" in our lives so why not share some things!  The first Manchester branch is being set up in Levenshulme next year, just down the road from The Heatons!

There have been branches in London for a while, so check out here for details of what the scheme involves. The Manchester team are running some on-line meetings as they get set up and details are here.

We are pleased to welcome the organisers to explain all at our monthly meeting on Saturday January 8th 2022 so do come along if you want to know more. Details of how to join the meeting are at the end of this newsletter.

SUSTRANS CONSULTATION

Sustrans is a national charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle, and are currently working on some feasibility proposals on behalf of Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council to improve the section of the National Cycle Network Route 62 / Trans Pennine Trail which travels through Hattersley, thanks to Department for Transport funding. It's not in the Heatons, but Sustrans have asked us to circulate details of the consultation to our members.

STOCKPORT VOLUNTEER HUB

Set up by SMBC during these times of Covid, Stockport Volunteer Hub is there for those needing volunteers as well as those wanting to be a volunteer. There are a wealth of different things to do - very varied!    Join – Stockport Volunteer HUB

On that note, if you or someone you know needs help or support over the Christmas period use the list of support numbers on Stockport Council's website to refer the individual to targeted support.

MONTHLY MEETINGS

The SLH monthly meetings are usually on the first Saturday of the month, but please check our website for up to date information, particularly as to whether at our usual venue, or via zoom.  Please note if restrictions are put into place in early Jan we will revert to a Zoom based meeting. Email us at info@slheatons.org if you would like to be sent the zoom room details.

The next meeting will be on Saturday 8th January 2022 10.30am - 12.00 noon.

We are pleased that someone from Manchester Library of Things will join us to talk about plans so far.

Contact info@slheatons.org if you have questions. We use the time to discuss and plan our activities, and have occasional guest speakers.  Do come and meet us!

We usually meet at The Heatons Centre, next to Heatons Library, Thornfield Rd, SK4 3LD. The entrance is at the back of the centre, where you should ring the bell for the conference room.

Hot drinks available. It is a large well-ventilated room.

We are grateful to Stockport Signpost for Carers in allowing us the use of The Heatons Centre at a generous fee. Signpost for Carers (registered charity no: 1085727) owns and manages the use of the Heatons Centre. Surplus income generated from the use of this community space is used to support the wellbeing of those caring for friends and relatives across Stockport.
