We opened the month by paying a visit to the Battery Show Europe in Stuttgart with two of the Powertrain members. The show consisted of three massive halls, all completely filled with stands of companies which are in one way or another working on powertrain technologies for electric vehicles such as: battery management systems, battery cells, all sorts of HV and LV connectors and cables, motor controllers, passive components, sensors, and entire battery systems as well.
It was really cool to see the state of the art of these technologies, and we came home with loads of inspiration and new ideas.
The rest of the month was all in the light of our test day at Ten Kate, which was supposed to take place in the week before the Christmas break. Some data acquisition tools an protocols had to be finished, and the bike had to be prepared. However, fate struck: one and a half week before the big day, charging failed. The communication between the motor and the charger failed, and initiating charging did not work. All resources of the team were put on solving the problem, but this did not succeed in time. Since the requirements of the charger are specific to our motorcycle, borrowing a charger from a different company or team was not an option.
There is however a silver lining. The source of the problem has been pinpointed, and contact with the manufacturer of the charger has been established. We expect to solve the problem in the first weeks of the new year, and have planned to go to Ten Kate by the end of January.
